It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Replying to @SecRubio
@SecRubio’s remarks overlook the severe realities on the ground and the actions of the Abiy regime, which are actively destabilizing the region: - War Crimes and Civilian Casualties: Human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, have called for formal war crimes investigations into recent airstrikes targeting residential areas in Mekelle—such as the August 20, 2026 strike—which resulted in significant civilian casualties. - Violation of the Pretoria Agreement: The Abiy regime has effectively torn up the Pretoria agreement by essentially denying the legal status of the signatory party. - Establishment of the Alliance: The Alliance for Survival was established as a last resort when all endeavors for peaceful reconciliation—including those based on the Pretoria agreement—fell on deaf ears. - Indiscriminate Drone Attacks: Abiy has conducted dozens of drone attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, across Tigray, Amhara and Oromia, including schools, universities, hotels, IDP camps and even an aid truck. In the city of Alamata alone, indiscriminate bombing killed at least 57 civilians. - Regional Destabilization in Sudan: Abiy is further complicating the Sudan conflict by sheltering, training, and sending combatants into Sudan. - As clearly stated by the Alliance for survival, characterizing the formation of the alliance as ‘separatists’ is legally inaccurate and politically inappropriate. Similarly, targeting military targets of an adversary as ‘terrorism’ is simply wrong.

Rhetoric shifts; facts endure. Claiming @AbiyAhmedAli tried to stop z war contradicts reality: relentless drone strikes on civilians& systemic collective punishment. Political realignments cannot wash away victim accountability. @reda_getachew @currentanalyst @DrTedros @DrMehari

NEW: UAE/Ethiopia RSF militia targeted Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, with two waves of kamikaze drone attacks. The first wave struck at around 6:00 a.m., while the second was launched just a short time ago. According to local sources, numerous civilians have reportedly been killed in the attacks. Preliminary assessments suggest that the drones used in the attacks were highly likely to have been launched from Ethiopian territory.

News: Alliance for Survival rejects Rubio’s characterization of #Ethiopia’s conflict as separatist, terrorist Addis Abeba — The Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival (#Alliance for Survival), a coalition of armed and political groups opposing the federal government, has rejected remarks by #US Secretary of State #Marco_Rubio characterizing aspects of Ethiopia’s conflict as separatist and terrorist, calling on #Washington to adopt what it described as a balanced approach to the conflict. In a statement issued on 18 October, the alliance said its military operations were not driven by separatist objectives or intended to fragment the country. Instead, it described its actions as self-defense after what it called the government’s rejection of efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution, including through the November 2022 #Pretoria Agreement. addisstandard.com/?p=60385

Four days ago, @FoxNews said #Ethiopia'n rebels "Alliance for Survival claimed responsibility for the Addis Ababa attacks, stating they used drones." It was laterally the only media on earth to report that. And I was wondering who their source is. Now, go figure.
