A surprise visit, without any staff, was conducted today by Mr. @DighavkarKiran, Deputy Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, @mybmc, after we flagged issues at a Garbage Vulnerable Point in Khar’s Pali Hill area.
We also convened a joint meeting of Mr Dighavkar with members and representatives of citizen forums from across Mumbai.
This coffee meet was to understand city's solid waste challenges and solution and from Mr Dighavkar.
He took time and explained citizens about various policies, execution and current works taken up by BMC.
Citizens shared issues about their area and explained on various, on-ground bottlenecks in handling Solid waste across different wards.
Mr. Dighavkar has assured proactive enforcement, including strict legal action against illegal dumping of construction and demolition debris across the city.
We hope more officers from @mybmc come forward and meet citizens for a collaborative solution on various issues in Mumbai.

This is all a gimmick and a farce. We have complained about so many such spots, but nothing has been done about them.
The question is whether the BMC has a strong mechanism to maintain these spots even after claiming that they have been eliminated. Most of these Garbage Vulnerable Points have emerged outside slum areas. Does the BMC have a long-term plan to regularise garbage collection in these areas, just as it does for buildings?
In the absence of sustained measures and a proper collection mechanism, these spots will return to being garbage dumping points in no time.

#WATCH | Delhi: Wife of Army Brigadier, Nitasha says, "On 11th April, around 9.45 PM, my husband and son went for a walk outside... They came back searching for his mobile and mentioned that two people were sitting in a Mercedes car and they were consuming alcohol. My husband and son tried to explain to them that this is a respectable society, and you are not supposed to do this. They started using abusive language and passing certain illicit comments, as I was also there. We called the PCR vehicle... The cop came, and he was about to take my statement. This individual, who was in the driving seat, made him speak on his mobile to someone. The cop came back, and he refused to write my statement... 7-8 goons came out from a cab, and started assaulting both my son and my husband. I went back to the cop who was sitting in the PCR van, requesting him for some assistance. But he refused... At around 10.45 PM, we went to the Vasant Vihar police station. There was a lady cop there who misbehaved with us, saying that we troubled them in the night... The PCR cop had reported to the police station the wrong vehicle number... We were not provided any medical assistance. Finally, we were able to give a written complaint to them at 2.13 AM..."

The Bombay High Court in a recent petition pertaining to AQI readings in Mumbai, has already directed the BMC to ensure credible air quality monitoring.
The Bombay High Court noted despite past directions the Air quality in Mumbai has not improved, thereby appointing a High Power Committee to monitor & enforce accountability
