Patricia Devlin, probably the best crime & paramilitarism journalist in N Ireland in the 2010's, gaining the confidence of all communities who trusted her with their stories, and whose work was so detailed and authentic that it irked all sorts of criminal and paramilitary elements who issued death threats, and were in the final stages of carrying out actual attacks.
In similar situations in other countries, Italy for mafiosi coverage or Holland for organised crime, the newspaper itself would provide security and wrap-around support, and fellow journalists would be shoulder-to-shoulder in condemnation of threats. While there was some clear support for Trish, the silence from some quarters was deafening.

Solidarity in journalism can be remarkably selective. Some people are very vocal about abuse and intimidation when it suits them, yet remarkably silent when it’s happening to someone they don’t particularly like. Principles shouldn’t depend on personalities.
Having experienced serious threats and intimidation during my career, I’ve never forgotten those who stood beside me. Equally, I’ve never forgotten those who chose silence, or worse, made it personal. Solidarity means very little if it’s only extended to people you like.

UK has banned the website. If you're in Britain or N Ireland, and you enter the address in your internet browser, you're met with a message blocking access to the website.
There are calls for Coimisiun na Mean to ban the website in Ireland.
Will any politician pick this up and run with it?
