Last summer we didn’t sell our best player and captain for £100m and prepared ourselves to take part in the THIRD most prestigious European tournament on the continent after finishing 7th in the league. We brought in 8 players spending roughly £180m. This summer we HAVE sold our best player and captain for £100m and are preparing ourselves to take part in the SECOND most prestigious European tournament on the continent after finishing 14th in the league avoiding relegation and winning the Conference League. We’ve brought zero players in whilst having a transfer kitty with an added bonus of a club record sale chucked into the mix. Tim Steidten coming in was supposed to make the board and Moyes’ life easier, instead it seems to have made everything vastly more complicated. The club KNEW Rice was leaving way before even the conference final so surely the most logical thing to do would be to have a contingency plan in place so that as soon as a deal for him was finalised the money from his sale could be invested as efficiently and conveniently as possible. The complete opposite seems to have transpired. It is nothing short of an absolute shambles the club is in the position it is currently in. The season starts in less than a month and we are the only team in the toughest league there is that haven’t strengthened. There’s rumours and reasons why players haven’t been brought in the but the FACT is that we simple are now light years behind anyone else in our transfer activity. We are giving ourselves the very worst possible chance of starting the season well and possibly are at great risk of once again playing catch up when it all starts up. If it’s down to Moyes then sack him. If it’s down to Sullivan then he needs to sell up. If it’s down to Steidten then perhaps his appointment wasn’t warranted. If it’s down to Noble then maybe he needs to be positioned elsewhere. I’m obviously very irritated and frustrated and hope I’m very wrong and infact there’s nothing to worry about and we’ll be just fine if not better than, but the lack of activity just screams indecisiveness and that is not good in any capacity. Let’s hope the currently situation the club finds itself in improves or at least won’t come back to bite us.
