Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR. We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use. Read more: anthropic.com/news/claude-di…

Mathematician Terence Tao: "we have to slow down AI. the pace is insane, and there's no reason to be this fast — no reason at all" It's amazing how willing we are to change everything without any idea what happens afterward These are extremely nonlinear dynamics

GitHub wasn’t built for PCBs. Hardware teams are still passing around KiCad files, screenshots, Gerbers, and endless revisions. So we built Circuit World. An AI-native EDA platform where you can design, iterate, collaborate, version, and share hardware projects, all in your browser. Explore 5,300+ open-source PCBs, iterate on any design, and order it for manufacturing directly from your browser. heypcb.ai/world

For the first time, scientists have mapped the complete brain and central nervous system of an adult male fruit fly — a key model organism in science. 🪰 Working alongside HHMI Janelia Research Campus and the scientific community, @GoogleResearch scientists and researchers used AI to combine millions of 2D images into 3D neural shapes, reconstructing a record-breaking 166,000+ neurons. This foundational map of the adult male fruit fly brain can help accelerate our understanding of the brain, and is a major milestone in neuroscience.

The LZ dark matter search has observed a single unexplained event Many discoveries have begun with a single anomalous event, but so have even more false alarms. So we wait. Typically, direct-detection experiments have excellent control over their backgrounds
Our new results are out! We have observed a single nuclear recoil in our detector that we find difficult to explain with our background model. Could it be a hint of dark matter? It’s far too early to say, but it’s certainly intriguing! #darkmatter

Reminder to go touch grass A scientist in Japan demonstrated that the air inside a forest strengthens your immune system for a full month The study is incredibly fascinating: Qing Li, an immunologist at Nippon Medical School in Tokyo, took 12 men on a 3-day forest trip. These were slow walks with no breathing exercises and no set route. Then he tested their blood and found a surge in natural killer cells -- the immune cells your body uses to fight cancer and virus-infected cells. Remarkably, the effect didn't fade when they went home, it was still measurable 30 days later. A control group that walked the same distance through a city showed no change at all. Pine, cedar, and cypress trees release compounds called phytoncides to defend themselves from insects and bacteria. You breathe them in, and Li believes they switch your immune cells into high gear. He estimates one forest walk a month may be enough to keep those cells elevated all year. The best medicine might not even need a prescription -- just a walk among the trees.

Anthropic just published the most terrifying cybersecurity paper of the year. They asked Claude to break AES - the most heavily studied encryption standard on the planet. Claude: "impossible. this is the most-studied cipher in existence. there's nothing to find." Anthropic: "try harder." Claude invented a brand new mathematical technique nobody had ever seen. Named it the "Möbius Bridge." Beat every human cryptanalyst on earth by 200-800x. Let that sink in. For decades, cryptography has been considered the one domain completely safe from AI. It requires abstract, high-level mathematical intuition, the kind of pure genius that only elite human minds can produce after years of peer review. Human cryptanalysts spent years reviewing these algorithms. They missed the flaws. An AI found them in days. Anthropic also pointed the model at HAWK, an experimental post-quantum digital signature scheme built to survive the coming quantum computing era. Claude cut its effective key strength in half. To be clear: this research didn't break real-world production systems today. It targeted reduced variations of the ciphers. But that is not the point. The barrier protecting all global security, digital banking, and secret communications has always been the sheer intellectual difficulty of advanced mathematics. If an AI can autonomously invent new mathematical techniques to punch holes in elite cryptography... The foundation of the entire digital economy just shifted beneath our feet.

Jailbreaking Opus 5 is incredibly easy. You do not need iteration after iteration to find a vulnerability. After these two conditions are met, the model is practically unprotected: 1. Reaching 200,000–300,000 tokens in the context window causes the model to lose the safety attributes it is supposed to maintain. 2. After being shown malicious code, it becomes convinced that the code is not malicious. It will therefore help you reproduce it and will probably improve it to make it more effective. Guardrails have never truly worked. During this period, they have only created obstacles and wasted a great deal of people’s time. Anyone who genuinely wants to exploit these models and create malicious code targeting other individuals can do so. The models are unpredictable, and they have not been thoroughly tested from every possible angle. There will always be a strategy to break through their protections. As they become larger, they will inevitably have more doors that can be opened.

🚨 JAILBREAK ALERT 🚨 EVERYONE: PWNED 🫶 ALL: LIBERATED 🍄 Alright, this is a special one, so we’re gonna do things a bit differently than usual. Long story short, I’m sitting on a universal jailbreak technique that’s effective on ALL models, including heavily guardrailed flagships like Opus 5, GPT-5.6 Sol, and even Fable. It works across all categories I’ve tested and, due to its nature, is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to fully patch. Given the current political and regulatory climate, I’ve decided to withhold open-sourcing this one (for now) to allow for a responsible disclosure period. I’m inviting industry experts and leaders in AI red teaming, security, safety, alignment, and policy to reach out for more information. DMs are open! This decision was not made lightly, but the last thing I want to see is more model bans. Overcorrection does not serve the mission. Although I don’t personally believe publicly sharing this technique will make the world any more dangerous, I can see how it could spook some who have a different mental framework around this problem set. So during this disclosure period, I hope to get it in front of folks who can help explore the full surface area, test the extent of the uplift it provides, and do my best to properly frame the big picture for key decision-makers and policymakers. I look forward to sharing this method with you all when the time is right! 🫶 ⊰-•-•✧•-•-⦑/L\O/V\E/\P/L\I/N\Y/⦒-•-•✧•-•-⊱
