What's the best medium for newsletter delivery? I'm convinced it's not e-mail. Never do I open up my e-mail inbox looking to spend 10-15 minutes thinking about abstract concepts.

I’ve been in Asia for 6 months and still can’t get over the fact that if the price says $60 then it’s $60 always. No GST, no tip.
If you order $100 of bbq to go at the counter, and they ask you for 15%, 18%, 20% or other as a tip, what do you do?

Unsure whether to listen to this advice or not 🤔

This was a fun one I discovered today. Currently I’m living in Taiwan with my family of 6 and our Mandarin Chinese is not great. Using ChatGPT voice I asked ChatGPT to read me a story in beginners Chinese, and then to ask me comprehension questions one at a time.
How has ChatGPT changed your life?

I also asked it to have a basic, beginners level-Chinese conversation with me so I could improve my conversational Mandarin. It was a bit clunky but is helping me pick out tones in a natural conversation a million times better than any language learning app.

Here me out: @firefliesai has so much training data on how I talk and the way I make decisions in meetings I should be able to send in an AI proxy to take meetings on my behalf

Companies should be lining up to learn about how Costco does employee development. Anyone have any resources (articles, books, podcasts) on how they think about training & development?
Costco's new CEO, Ron Vachris, starts his job on Jan 1. He has worked at Costco for more than four decades, beginning as a forklift driver. I love this story and admire Costco's approach to employee development.

Hot take: the skill of picking up, retaining, and conversing in a new language will always be valuable, even in a world where everything can be instantly translated.
In 2014 Elon started a small private school for he and his friends' kids. He got a lot of flak for excluding foreign language curriculum - he predicted AI would obviate learning those soon IMO he is being totally vindicated, we are 1-2 years from universal translator in AirPods

I’ve averaged 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep a night after reading Why We Sleep by @sleepdiplomat 3 years ago. I am still not certain how to discern actual improvements vs placebo effect, but alongside eating mostly plant based food I feel like energy levels are high and I stay rested.
Struggling to do more than 7 hours. Anyone who has gone from 6 hours to 8-9 hours? Would love to hear how it has changed your perspective.

I have this thesis that it’s actually a long term advantage to build products for people not like you, because it forces you to build empathy otherwise you die. Harder to get PMF, but easier to scale to new verticals and segments once you’ve built this skill.
Replying to @petergyang @tfadell
You don't see founders being evaluated on whether they have great "product sense." Either they build something customers want or they don't. It's that simple.

My prediction: in the next 18 months there will be lots of companies that are basically UIs on top of narrowly defined AI use-cases created and then sold for (relatively) low prices.
🥶 First AI crunch hitting after ~1 year of AI hype (Stable Diffusion came out August, ChatGPT in November) I think now we see who is just a GPT/SD/API wrapper and who has actual competitive moat Moat is the hardest to get in AI cause most of the tech we use is open source Some of us thought UX would be a moat but if we look at Jasper below that wasn’t even enough, nor was funding and high marketing spend Everyone with an AI startup should scratch their head today what really is their moat and if it’s defensible

It will be remarkably hard to build true, valuable companies on top of AI unless you have something unique, like data or distribution
