The big opportunity in the next generation of semantic layers is interoperability. The problem today is working hard to maintain all the logic and then hitting the wall of your closed system. Can't wait for dbt metrics to launch and for @transformio to rely on those definitions!

Here's a diagram I almost included. The "denormalization" piece of our DAGs is IMO the least DRY and most fragile part of our data stacks today. Shifting to programmatic data mart construction and consumption will dramatically reduce the overhead of managing our data

Congrats to the team at @transformio on launching MetricFlow, an OSS tool for managing (business) metrics! Reports are useless if you don't have consistent definitions for you metrics, and MetricFlow solves that problem elegantly.
