Today we’re showing Own 1 to the world for the first time. This is what we’ve been building, and why.
The danger of AI is real, and I’m glad the smartest people in the industry are now saying so out loud. But most of that conversation is about the labs and the models. Very little of it is about you, and what you’ve already handed over.
We’ve spent years researching AI privacy, long before it was a headline. The more we looked, the clearer the problem became.
You tell AI things you’d never say out loud. A symptom you wouldn’t Google. A secret you haven’t told your partner. An idea you haven’t protected. A decision you can’t undo.
More than 2.5 billion messages a day go to one platform alone. A lot of them are things people would never say to another person.
In the social media era we traded privacy for convenience. We shrugged.
This time the price is your thinking. Your mind. Your identity.
Facebook had to guess 52,000 things about you from the outside. Your AI doesn’t guess. You tell it.
Facebook knows who your friends are. Your AI knows what you argued about last night. It doesn’t see what you’ve decided. It sees you deciding.
And this is the part most people haven’t noticed yet.
ChatGPT and Claude know almost everything about the world. What they learn about you doesn’t belong to you, and it doesn’t compound in your favour. It sits in their logs.
So here’s a fun exercise. Get your own local AI agent. Run it for a couple of months. Work with it every day and let it learn you. Your files. Your decisions. How you actually work and think. Over time it builds something no frontier model can give you out of the box: your Personal Accumulated Intelligence, PAI. And you’ll be surprised how often it serves you better than the latest frontier model.
It doesn’t have to be the smartest model in the world. It just has to become the smartest AI for you.
Every model is getting smart. They’re converging. What won’t converge is what each one learns about you. Your PAI becomes more valuable than switching to the next, bigger model. Because it isn’t chat history. It’s your ideas, your knowledge, your intellectual property, built over years.
So the real question is simple. Do you want to own that, or do you want someone else to?
Right now, someone else does. You’re building your entire AI life inside their platform. The better it knows you, the harder it is to leave. That isn’t a bug. That’s the business model. The lock-in of this decade isn’t an app store. It’s your memory.
I don’t accept that.
You should be able to leave a platform without leaving yourself behind.
There are two kinds of AI. The kind you rent. And the kind you own.
Your intelligence is yours. Owning it should be a right, not a feature.
So today we’re introducing a new architecture for personal AI. Scalable Private Intelligence. SPI.
SPI is not a product. It’s a new layer in the stack, and I think it will matter as much as the ones before it.
The idea is simple.
Your intelligence is your memory, context, files, workspace, identity, preferences, agents and workflows. Execution is models, GPUs, clouds and devices. Every platform today fuses the two and locks you inside. SPI separates them.
Every major shift in computing was a separation like this. Operating systems separated software from hardware. Virtualization separated workloads from servers. Cloud separated deployment from owned infrastructure. Each time, the thing that got separated became portable, and the layer that made it portable became one of the most valuable platforms in the industry. SPI separates your intelligence from whatever happens to run it.
That changes who holds the power. Today the model is the asset and you are the data. Under SPI, the model is a commodity you swap in and out, and your PAI is the asset. Models become replaceable. Compute becomes routable. You hold the thing that compounds.
To make that real, SPI defines a set of guarantees that any system has to meet. Your intelligence lives in a portable state you can export, import and migrate, with a full audit trail. The keys that encrypt it are yours, not a vendor’s. Memory is independent of any model, so it survives when the model changes. Compute can route to any device, server or cloud without re-provisioning. Every agent runs under permissions and a budget you set. Private by default. Scalable when you need it. Independent by architecture.
Today it’s an architecture we’ve built and shipped. Once the specification is published and anyone can implement it, it becomes a standard. That’s where this is going.
What you get with SPI, in one line: your entire AI life in one encrypted package that you own, that runs on your own hardware, and that you can move to any computer, server or cloud without losing a thing.
How we do it: three pieces, built to work as one.
OwnXOS, an AI-native operating system that holds your intelligence. Own 1, a personal AI computer built to run it at home. OwnXCloud, a compute network that gives it more power the moment you need it, under rules you set.
The OS is the key. Everything about you lives inside it, so wherever the OS runs, you run. Install it on Own 1 today. Move it to a bare-metal server or a hyperscaler tomorrow. Same OS, same agents, same memory, same permissions. Nothing resets. That’s what makes the intelligence yours instead of theirs.
Now the details.
OwnXOS is lightweight and ships as a single package: open-weight models, our flagship super agent Nexy, and every tool and dependency it needs. Built on a NixOS base, so the entire machine is defined as code, updates are atomic, and you can roll back to any previous working state with one command. Keys are bound to the hardware with TPM2 and the disk is fully encrypted, so a stolen drive is useless. Agents aren’t apps bolted on top. Identity, permissions, memory, budgets and audit history are built into the OS itself. Every agent has a wallet with a spending policy it cannot exceed, paying for models, APIs and compute over x402 in stablecoins, and every action leaves a receipt. The OwnApp Store ships with models, agents, skills, MCPs and datasets, and it shows you plainly which models you can actually own and run offline, and which ones are just an API call to someone else’s building.
Own 1 is the computer built for it. A powerful, energy-efficient personal AI computer with 99 TOPS on device, up to 96 GB of unified memory and 8 TB of replaceable encrypted storage, in a fanless, silent aluminium body smaller than a sheet of A5 paper. It runs two local LLMs and eight agents at the same time, around the clock, for about $8 a month in electricity. Up to ten people can share one machine. Need more? Plug in an NVIDIA card over PCIe, or stack four units into a single pool.
OwnXCloud is the overflow. When a job needs more than a desk can give, it routes the work across 34 providers in 482 regions at the right price, in the country you choose. On-device first. OwnXCloud second. A frontier API only if you approve it, every time.
Nobody knows who builds the best model in 2030. We don’t need to bet on it. You just keep yourself.
And the code is open. The labs are beginning to open their systems to outside inspection, and that’s the right direction. We go further. With OwnX, anyone can read the code, evaluate it and break it, and we’ll pay them when they do. The system that holds your mind should be open to everyone, not just the people with the right badge.
We can’t fix every risk of AI with a computer, and we’re not claiming to. What we can do is make sure that when you use AI, it works for you, remembers you, and belongs to you. That’s worth years of our lives.
To our engineering and product team: you worked around the clock for months, almost seven days a week, on something most people said was too hard or too early. Thank you. This launch is yours.
Not less intelligence. More human control.
Say hello to Own 1.

The best antidote to burnout is not teaching people coping skills to handle stress. It's redesigning work to reduce stress.
The cure for exhaustion is removing overwhelming demands and the norm of self-sacrifice.
