There is this:-
"Of nearly 80,000 UK parkrunners
surveyed in 2025 by Sheffield Hallam
University, almost 75% said that running,
walking or volunteering at parkrun
improved their life satisfaction. They
felt happier, and had improved wellbeing
and a greater sense of achievement."

No state has a right to exist! That’s not ‘nonsense’ or ‘strange’. It’s true! Did Czechoslovakia have a right to exist? If so, how did we end up with Slovakia and the Czech Republic? Does the UK have a right to exist? If so, how come Scots were allowed to vote to break it up?

Radical devolution: London telling the rest of the country what to do, but the person doing it is from the north-west.

This rather gives the game away. If the position is “you will never convince me”, then this is no longer about asking what policy best serves parkrun’s purpose, culture and participants. The conclusion is fixed in advance; parkrun is simply the battleground for a prior ideological commitment.
At least Claire is candid enough to show that this is a crusade to impose a fixed ideological position, not an open inquiry into what policy best serves parkrun. It’s a shame others still dress the same predetermined conclusion up as neutral questions of “fairness” and “accuracy”.

It's unrealistic to expect mass participation community events to deliver competitive sport level fairness, hence parkrun isn't regulated as one.
Able bodied participants have an advantage over ones who aren't, adults over juniors in the overall standings, and doping is allowed.
Getting serious Barkrun and #BringBackTheStats vibes from RRRUK. We’ve been here before. Safety and inclusion must come first—not be sacrificed at the altar of people’s desire to race, compete or participate on their own terms, regardless of safety and operational considerations.

Televising a public execution is beyond disgusting and barbaric. The death penalty should not exist, let alone be a live-streamed spectacle.
This is a grotesque violation of human dignity. We must oppose this - and the death penalty - everywhere.

I just think it's great that you are sending a pile-on towards someone in their late 70s who has volunteered nearly 200 times. Good stuff.

When I started posting on Twitter about 3 years ago I had no idea how bonkers it made some people. They screenshot you and then you see it popping up months or years later. About a month in I found myself "quoted" in someone's blog with a completely out of context screenshot.

Congratulations to anyone who participated in their first @parkrunUK today, including those who were encouraged to give it a go by @RRRunnersUK .
But it’s worth remembering that neither RRRUK nor any of the organisations now supporting it were responsible for creating or operating the parkrun charity or its events over the past 22 years — although, of course, individuals within those groups may have participated or volunteered in their personal capacity.
Parkrun became what it is through two decades of people turning up week after week: running, walking, volunteering, processing results, setting up courses, having coffee, learning what worked, changing what didn’t, and gradually developing a simple model capable of operating at enormous scale across different communities and countries.
That success wasn’t built around a campaign slogan or a single classification issue. It was built around making participation easy, welcoming and sustainable.
Parkrun isn’t really about attaching value judgements to symbolic placings on a results page. It is a living, breathing, complex community system, built and refined over two decades. You can’t simply redesign one part according to a preferred theory of what parkrun ought to be and assume the rest of the system will carry on unchanged.
It’s like ripping out the heart the Tin Man spent so long searching for and replacing it with a metronome: technically very good at keeping time, but rather missing what made the whole thing matter in the first place.

From the start I've always thought this was simply a poor choice of battle, and appeared to be reflected in general opinion. "It's just parkrun", "it's not the Olympics" is the most common response, whether the campaigners approve or not.
