We expect more out of you, and will not be compensating you for it.
You’ll be held to a higher standard, be responsible for an expensive vehicle, and the lives of some 50 souls on board.
You’ll drive this oversized, under maintained vehicle early before school, after school (maybe even pulling you out of practice… the very thing you’re applying to do), and late nights after games. You’ll do it on limited sleep, but we’ve opened you up to severe punishment by the DMV if you make a mistake while driving.
You’re expected to drive pre-game. We don’t care if it interferes with your ability to mentally prepare for the game. You’ll drive post-game. We don’t care if you’re riding an emotional roller coaster, coming off an adrenaline rush from a victory or upset due to a loss.
You’ll gladly jump into this role without the compensation or we’ll deduct your already minuscule wages.

How does your district encourage coaches to obtain their CDL? ⬇️
During the Fall Forum Q&A session, Mike Bass of @AlvinISD shared how his school structures coaching stipends and CDL requirements:
Year 1 ➡️ Coaches have one year upon hiring to secure their CDL.
Year 2 ➡️ A 25% stipend reduction applies if not obtained.
Year 3 ➡️ A 50% stipend reduction applies for non-compliance.
Beyond Year 3 ➡️ Coaches who still do not have their CDL must seek opportunities elsewhere.
All Fall Forum TAAC videos are now available on the website to those who registered. Stay tuned for more insights and takeaways from this year's sessions!

If you’re new to Direct Instruction courtesy of @ehanford and “Sold a Story,” make @MrZachG a must follow. He knows DI better than anyone. He also knows BS and how to detect it.

I don't know if you realize what just happened.
Elon Musk is completely bypassing the State.
For 100 years, we've been told the problem is capital. That it must be captured, taxed, redistributed. With an army of intermediaries standing between those who create wealth and the people: ministries, agencies, commissions, bureaucrats.
Musk is doing the opposite. He's taking his capital and giving it directly to the people. One SpaceX share to every kid in America. Not a handout. Not a subsidy. A piece of the machine that's taking humanity to Mars.
And he says it himself: this is the first of many.
Mises understood this back in 1944: the bureaucrat creates nothing. He administers what others created, following rules that have no connection to the value produced. The day value flows directly from the one who creates it to the one who receives it, the bureaucrat has no function left.
That's what's being born right now. A new liberal world order, where the very concept of the State will make less and less sense.
The world we're entering is a world of abundance. AI, robots, energy, space. And that abundance won't come through the State, for one simple reason: we have a century of proof that it doesn't work.
Redistribution was version 1.0. Direct distribution of capital is 2.0.
While France is still debating how to tax builders even more, America is handing stock to its kids.
Pick your side.

This is an excellent book on Direct Instruction. It details the logical analysis of communications and the empirical analysis of student learning.
In short, the materials your district purchased have flawed methods for how content is designed and communicated.

The one thing I’d want everyone to know about Direct Instruction is that the methods, materials and routines are far less important than the underlying drive behind it: the unswerving belief that EVERY child can achieve, regardless of circumstance.
DI is based on a deeply held conviction that if a child didn’t learn, it was because the teacher (or curriculum) didn’t teach them properly. In that sense, it is a movement rooted in social justice but one which takes responsibility for outcomes.
In the 60s and 70s, there was a view in the education academic establishment that formal academic work was premature for 4-year-olds, and doubly so for poor ones; so what they needed was enrichment and play.
Worse still, in the early 70s, some academics described DI as a racist enterprise*. Engelmann's own memoir notes that he and Bereiter were called “Nazis” and “kid-haters.”
Despite this, Engelmann taught disadvantaged 4 year olds to factor and to solve simultaneous equations, and filmed it. Bereiter and Engelmann’s argument, set out in ‘Teaching Disadvantaged Children in the Preschool’, was that the disadvantaged child was not “behind” in some general developmental sense but behind in specific, teachable things, that all kids could learn with the right scope and sequence.
The preschool they opened in the mid 60s ran for two hours a day, with three twenty-minute lessons in language, arithmetic and reading, taught to small groups by a teacher following a specific DI sequence. Those kids made huge gains which faded when they went to normal public schools.
DI has its limitations like everything but the drive behind it is sincere. As #SoldAStory season 2 will show, it has been portrayed as something very different to what it actually is and the animating principles behind it.
