After complaints about Timothy Dexter's A Pickle for the Knowing Ones (1797) being entirely devoid of punctuation, in future editions the eccentric businessman supplied a supplemental page so that people “may peper and solt as they please”: publicdomainreview.org/colle…

Now Available from Canyon Cinema: Christopher Harris's b/w (2023) Shot on a single 100-foot roll of film and edited in-camera, b/w uses close focus cinematography of text from commercial house paint samples to suggest a mythology of light and shadow. canyoncinema.com/2026/10/20/…

A brief review of recent technical “errors” at Meta: 1. Restricting the Facebook pages of Brazilian president Lula who is in a runoff election against a Trump-favored candidate 2. Shutting down the pages of Albanians protesting Jared Kushner’s plans to build a luxury resort in the country 3. Rejecting ads for a documentary critical of Elon Musk 4. Shutting down the No Kings instagram page in the middle of a major anti-Trump protest

Marx's Eighteenth Brumaire: A Thread 🧵 As we know, Marx believed that history progressed in cyclical episodes, or 'brumaires', and theorized that communism couldn't be achieved until the eighteenth brumaire. Marxists today mostly argue about which brumaire we're in. (1/12)

This textual note to Donne’s “The Prohibition” is a little avant-garde prose poem, shades of Gertrude Stein

Incredible. Don’t forget on 17th of October, 1961 France killed hundreds (exact number is unknown) of Algerians dressed in their best clothing protesting in the most ‘civilized’ way in Paris. Their bodies were thrown in the river. In addition, 12,000 Algerians were detained by police. This was during the Algerian war of independence.

Instead of posting the obvious Soviet works of art to easily debunk the cheap ragebait below, I'd like to introduce you to the remarkable Soviet/Russian painter, Geliy Korzhev (1925-2012).
The Soviets believed all art is political, and produced seven decades of shitty art

I talk a lot irl about the way young people today are inundated with the culture of the past. I was at Paragon the other night, and the DJs played a lot of different genres from different eras, but the song that got the absolute biggest reaction was Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams

imagine a group of 21-25 year olds are at Studio 54 in 1980. and of all the music played over the course of the night, they absolutely lose their minds when the DJ puts on Moonlight Parade by the Glenn Miller Orchestra

Bill and I batted around a lot of ideas for copy we could use to describe this thing, and I think we finally cinched it with "A dark, sweltering journey through the hall of mirrors at the end of history." By the time you finally put it down, you will agree. October 20.
