#gurgaon #gurgaonrain #gurugram #gurugramrain

You can name housing socities in Delhi/ NCR/ Gurgaon fancy names like Magnolia, Gardenia and whatever. But the truth is the moment you step out of these socities, the whole of the city is nothing but an overflowing trash can.

If Gurgaon were a company and its core infrastructure failed every single year in the same way, the management would have been replaced long ago.
Wrote this two weeks ago. Gurgaon flooded again today. 48,000 crore in taxes for zero infrastructure.
Even if they spent just 2%, which is 960 crore, 90% of the problem would be solved.

Every single word spoken by @Suhelseth could not be truer and more representative of the reality on the ground in Gurugram, and frankly, in far too many of our cities.
There is no accountability because somewhere along the way the government’s own policies, rules and laws stopped mattering.
What seems to matter now are ATRs -Action Taken Reports -which so often amount to symptomatic or cosmetic fixes, while the underlying problem remains exactly where it was.
This is not rhetoric. Those of us who have volunteered our time on civic issues have witnessed this repeatedly.
The government has rules. It has policies. It has master plans. It has Citizen Charters. It has departments, officers, engineers and enormous budgets.
And yet, despite a clear mandate and years of representations, we continue to fight simply to get basic rules enforced -including the MoEFCC’s Solid Waste Management, Plastic Waste Management and Construction & Demolition Waste rules.
Why?
Because actually implementing the rules would mean changing the way the city functions.
And perhaps that is precisely what nobody wants to do.
Meanwhile, every monsoon brings the same waterlogging, the same traffic paralysis, the same sewage and drainage failures, and every year the same waste crisis and unimaginable onslaught of dhool dhua -air pollution shroud the the year barring the rainy season.
As Mr Seth says: who’s invested in fixing this? Really no one !
Gurgaon residents are repeatedly documenting the violations and bringing them to the government’s notice, who exactly is accountable for fixing them?

#WATCH | Haryana: On severe waterlogging in Gurugram, author-columnist Suhel Seth says, "It is an absolute shame that all of us who live in Gurugram live in the most pitiable state. We live in a state of absolute misery; there are floods every monsoon and every monsoon promises are made by every Govt, by every municipal official - that things will be sorted. But it doesn't happen. Every year they are dying because they are electrocuted in flooded waters, traffic has come to a standstill...Tell me who wants to invest in India if this is the state of its smart cities. Do we not have solutions...This repeats year after year...The apathy is galling. What is worse is that we, as citizens, raise these issues but no one cares...Why should it take some of our brightest engineers so long to fix drainage and sewage? 1) Rampant corruption in granting building licenses. 2) They are being given licenses at will. 3) There is no accountability...It is an absolute shame...What kind of Brand India are we building?...The people don't matter anymore. We are losing the plot...We have a problem for every solution; we are not building solutions...I would urge the PM, people in Govt - please wake up the people who are running Haryana or for that matter any city..."

Please start privatising municipal corporations as well.
Atleast there will be some accountability and less corruption.
Because clearly it will take 100 more years for this government to make any changes in public infrastructure.

Now @narendramodi ji, Please dedicate next 3 years for sewage and drainage infrastructure.
