I had trouble fully unpacking what this paper actually was measuring, what its findings were, and what the implications are for human/primate consiousness
so i had Claude read through the paper and this thread, compose a script, and create an explainer video

Wise words from a wiser man than me. I've told people for the past decade and I have recent posts on here saying the same: the merge button is the easy part. Its the decade+ (Richard says 25 years) that follows where you've accepted the transfer of maintenance thats hard.

50 Years of The Selfish Gene. In my experience, its main message has not sunk in half a century later, even among scientists: one often reads an ingenuous "adaptive explanation" of this or that trait (music, rituals, religion) as "bonding the group," without any awareness that this is not what the theory of natural selection is about or that it is in any way problematic.
