He is best known for: The Prose Edda — a foundational account of Norse mythology, including Odin, Thor, Loki, and the origins of the cosmos. Heimskringla — a collection of sagas chronicling the kings of Norway. Skáldskaparmál — a section of the Prose Edda explaining poetic language, metaphors, and kennings, the elaborate figurative expressions used by Norse poets. Sturluson was assassinated in Iceland in 1241 amid political conflict. For a poet, his work is particularly fascinating because of its kennings—expressions such as whale-road for the sea and battle-sweat for blood. RIP Snorri 🙏🏼
