The demand for 5-Day Banking has been agreed upon in the 2024 bipartite settlement, but implementation is still awaited.

🚨 SBI Bank Strike 1960
In 1960 SBI Employees announced indefinite strike and the strike continued for 21 days. Employees were demanding better service conditions. Govt was not ready to accept the demand. The strike intensified. The strike became so powerful that Govt was shaken and PM Jawahar lal Nehru had to intervene. PM Nehru directed Finance Minister Morarji Desai to discuss it in cabinet and resolve soon. This strike led to the introduction of Desai Award and Bipartite Settlement System that is used in Banks till now.

Every 24x7 banking service has a banker behind it and a family waiting at home. We agreed to the 5-day week in March 2024 and accepted longer weekday hours. The regulator, the insurer and the Government all work 5 days.
