this is a better and more thorough examination of the @thebookseller piece than I could manage to write - go on, have a browse. Sam is wise*.

One of the first things I'm asked when I put a piece of work out is 'what is it then?'
So I wrote a (short) book to answer that. If you'd like a digital copy, it's free. iBooks only, as Kindle doesn't permit fixed-layout eBooks anymore..

All of this, 100 percent, about AI.
Living in the age of AI hype makes demands on all of us to come up with smartypants prognostications about how AI is about to change everything forever, and wow, it's pretty amazing, huh?

ALT A science-fiction pulp illustration of a man with a swollen, bald head that has been cut away to reveal its contents. The man's face has been cropped at the bridge of his nose, leaving just the swollen, hollow head, cheekbones, and staring eyes, the last of which have been covered with blue ovals. The hollow head has been filled with the trudging figures from Van Gogh's 'The Prisoners,' marching over a grid of vacuum tubes from an early computer. The background of the image is the wiring from an early mainframe, snarled and dense.

International students are not migrants. They aren’t planning on settling in the U.K., the vast majority return home after their studies. They also contribute nearly £42 billion per annum to the U.K. economy.
Take them out of the migration statistics, they don’t belong there.
