Licha Martínez #mufc He said what so many people want to say but are afraid to for various reasons. Players, managers, journalists and even some fans. Knowing Lisandro perhaps a little better than most, I can say that he’s a genuinely honest and brave man. In Argentina, he’s also described as someone with ‘conciencia social’ - social consciousness, which encompasses critical thinking, a sense of justice and social responsibility. He’s absolutely unafraid to call things as they are, even when it comes to those in positions of power. There are actually very few players like that in the Argentina national team, btw. But there are even fewer at United, where nobody wants to upset anyone or damage relationships. Martínez absolutely broke the internet by calling Manchester United’s leadership to account. Obviously, he won’t survive here after this. He even pulled a «Mourinho» by saying, “If I speak…”, although he seemed to be a bit more specific. Many people think he went too far, that this isn’t how you do things. Personally, though, I’m glad he did it. Perhaps he’s sacrificed himself (his contract is unlikely to be renewed), but if not him, then who? Licha is acting in a very Roy-Keane-esque manner, but in a situation that’s far more bleak for the club. Things are bad on every front. It turns out that Amad also posted a story after the game with an angry message: “f***g disgrace, I have no words.” The players clearly understand within the squad that the club has prepared the team poorly for the season. Of course, both Lisandro and Amad are in poor form, and the rest of the players don’t exactly have much to boast about either. But given the current situation, it’s easy to understand the players’ frustration. Over the past 2-3 years, the club has been veering from one direction to another, making it virtually impossible to establish any stability. Martínez actually highlighted this too: constantly changing managers (who also have radically different style) is hardly beneficial for the players themselves. Sometimes, when players get tired of a manager, they down tools and get him sacked. But the players didn’t do that to Ten Hag, Amorim or Carrick. Over these three years, the club has lost its way so badly that there’s no need for anyone to down tools - everything falls apart on its own. And for an active player to publicly voice his dissatisfaction with the club’s leadership is unprecedented. Martínez, De Ligt and Mazraoui came to work with Ten Hag, and back then, they still believed this great club could return to its former heights. Cunha and Mbeumo came to work with Amorim, when that belief in a revival was still there, but fading with every passing month. Now, it feels like that hope is gone - not just among the players, but the manager and even the fans. Licha clearly wants to win and play for a strong team, and he knows what this club is and what it should be. He also clearly has values that go far beyond money. But the current leadership and owners have no intention of taking the club “back to where it belongs”. Their goal is a new stadium and profit. And money is the highest value for the Glazers and Ratcliffe. Unfortunately, if none of the other players back Lisandro, club will simply get rid of him, and this whole storm will die down just like the recent #BoycottUnited movement. And I think that’s exactly what will happen. As we can see, far too many people have financial interests rather than sporting ones. But I admire Licha’s balls, and perhaps he’s one of the last players who still understands what Manchester United is supposed to be. Gracias, @LisandrMartinez ❤️ #GlazersOut #IneosOut

Professor Yunus answered the nation's call and stepped in to help stabilize Bangladesh and manage its transition to democracy following the July Revolution. He did not have to do this, but agreed to do so out of a sense of patriotism and respect for those who had sacrificed everything to bring down the Hasina dictatorship. For 18 months, Yunus was the subject of a relentless campaign of lies and slander, including from those who argued that his only interest was in holding and maintaining power. Instead, he kept to his word, enabled free and fair elections, and handed power to an elected successor within 18 months. During his time in office, Professor Yunus started the process of ensuring accountability for the crimes committed during the Hasina era and provided a pathway towards long needed reforms of the country's economy and political system. It is now up to the elected government to continue this work. After ending his tenure as Chief Adviser, Professor Yunus resumed his life's work advocating for the world's poorest and helping the world deal with some of the most pressing global challenges. He continues to keep a pace that would be a challenge for someone half his age. Yunus is, and will remain, a hero to millions. Those who continue to vilify and harrass him in the name of the fascist government that preceded him can never take away from his many achievements. Their actions are contemptible.

In 1900 there were 100,000 Tigers in the world, now there are less than 10,000. In 1900 there were 1.6 billion people in the world, now there are 8.32 billion. So no, a humans life is not more valuable than a Tigers, there are so few Tigers purely because of us. Chalk this up as a bit of Tiger retribution.
I've seen many people saying the tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park should have been shot when the man entered its enclosure. I couldn't disagree more. From the footage I've seen, it looks extremely difficult to even get into that enclosure in the first place. And from what I've heard, the staff did an incredible job reacting as quickly as they did, while showing restraint and avoiding killing an innocent tiger. These are apex predators. They are extremely dangerous animals that will naturally attack humans when confronted in their territory. Hopefully this magnificent animal isn't put down in the aftermath of this tragedy. The tiger did nothing wrong.

Baffles me how Man City fans are processing this guilty verdict. An independent commission confirmed a £900 million disguised funding fraud spanning nearly a decade. It's arguably the biggest corporate deception in sports history. Yet you log on here and see them screaming shite about a “Red Cartel conspiracy”, complaining about other clubs, or demanding "concrete proof" as if a multi year independent tribunal just made it all up for a laugh. The level of cognitive dissonance required to look at a systemic, state sponsored fraud operation and conclude, "everyone else is just jealous," could fund an entire peer reviewed psychology paper on mass delusion.

The idea that the Bangladesh government could make a deal with Sheikh Hasina and allow her to return to Bangladesh and not face justice is fantasy. There is a path forward for reconciliation, but it cannot include Hasina or her inner circle.
Is BNP changing stance on Awami League as December nears and Sheikh Hasina remains adamant on returning home? Important story by @SuryaGangadha13 on Bangladesh's changing political landscape.

I can see this Man City v Premier League battle getting dirty, nasty and drawn out for years. They either get punished massively or everyone else walks away from watching English Football ever again.

If Man City don’t receive strong enough sanctions all other Premier League clubs should just pull rank and refuse to play them.

On Wednesday, just hours after the verdict officially confirming Manchester City’s guilt, the Commission responsible for Portugal's witness protection programme informed me of its decision to terminate my participation in the programme and withdraw my police protection, thereby knowingly placing me in a life-threatening situation. Given these circumstances, I have no alternative but to relocate, within the next few days, to an undisclosed location for an indefinite period of time, due to the multiple death threats I have received and the serious risk of an assassination attempt against me. For this reason, I have just set up a GoFundMe campaign and I am asking for everyone's support to help me survive this serious situation created by the Portuguese State, which, as I have already stated, has knowingly decided to place my life at risk. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a special thanks to everyone who continues to support Football Leaks, and I can give everyone one guarantee: the fight will most certainly continue! gofundme.com/f/help-save-rui…

This is dangerous ground for Labour. There are far more people who care about football clubs that are not Man City than care about Labour. If City get off easy, and Labour are seen to have meddled, it's going to do them serious damage.
**EXCLUSIVE** Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak met a senior UK government minister to discuss the UAE’s investments in Britain just days before the club’s guilty verdicts were announced. Al Mubarak asked to meet Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds on 14 September in his capacity as CEO of Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, sources tell Bloomberg. The pair held a private meeting in Downing Street on that date, the people said. Al Mubarak talked about current and future UAE investment in Britain, they said. The conversation covered the full range of the relationship including defence, security, intelligence and trade, they said. Eleven days later, on 25 September, the Athletic reported Man City had been found guilty of breaking Premier League rules. On 29 September, the Premier League confirmed Manchester City had been found guilty of artificially boosting its balance sheet by more than £900 million. The fact of the meeting so close to the verdict will raise further questions about the UK government’s handling of the case. Andy Burnham has faced criticism, including from his own ministers and officials, after he publicly suggested Man City’s Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified from running the club because of the investment they bring to Britain. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Emirati officials have warned the UK government that the severity of the ruling could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

⚖️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹 Based on reports of Man City’s proposed appeal, its “irrefutable proof” (which the Commission refuted and called “concocted”) asserts that state-owned sponsors received state funding to help pay the sponsor contracts… and that this money was not paid by the owner company, ADUG. If Man City could prove this (and the PL could not prove Man City and the sponsors were Related Parties) then this would absolve Man City of the most serious charges that resulted in PSR breaches. The challenge they faced with this at the Commission is that they handed the PL originals of all the emails and other documents that could be found in the Football Leaks, which show in no uncertain terms that the money was paid by ADUG and that they are Related Parties. Because there would have been no reason to lie in the emails, and there are so many, from so many senior people “in the know”… they become incredibly credible, reliable, cogent evidence. As such, Man City presenting counter-factual evidence when they DID have a reason to lie was always going to be treated as concocted unless they could mitigate for the emails with an innocent explanation. Their attempt to explain the emails as “false assumptions” was never going to be considered plausible given the reasons above. In the comments below, I will put a thread of linked posts from old analysis that afford evidence of payments by ADUG and that Man City and the sponsors were Related Parties. Given the individuals involved, the statements made, the volume of them, over the length of time… you can decide for yourself whether you believe it plausible that all these people were merely “confused”… 🧵

Just for context here, Enron overstated their profits by $586 million, we're accused of overstating revenues by £900m. It's not an exact equivalence, and they also hid billions of debt, but their downfall led to the collapse of one of the biggest audit firms in the world.
