@LondonMarathon Hi VLM. I was a very enthusiastic participant in the VLM2019 and, along with a huge sense of achievement, received a medal for my completion. This was work proudly for the day, joined a small collection of medals from other events, and now sits in a drawer
Have you considered a more sustainable alternative? For example a certificate on recycled paper printed with vegetable inks? You made great progress last year in making the event more sustainable - and it seems to me getting rid of the medals would be another strong step forward
Although these medals are undoubtedly treasured by many, I can’t help feeling that they are an unnecessary use of what little resources we have - the production energy, the medal itself, the polyester ribbon - with the majority at some point ending up in landfill
