Saw the re-release of Ken Russell's The Devils tonight. The new more complete cut seems to hit even harder at our own times, but it's also a delightful hoot to go over the top with Russell (before things get really unpleasant).
1/? I've been reading & listening to The Hobbit in French, and it's pretty cool. 1st, tho I've been through LotR a few times, I've neglected The Hobbit as a kid's book, but there's much more of Middle Earth's details than I remembered. 2nd, coming at the tale through another...

I think my fav bits from my wife Leah's new book The Flight Nurses' War (out this week) are the bits where she visits the Pacific war battlefields including Hacksaw Ridge (below)

While the history of Livia is full of the usual slanders against a powerful woman, Siân Phillips's portrayal remains a masterpiece. youtube.com/watch?v=nG7NdIlS…

39 years ago today, The Lion and the Cobra was released. Sinead O’Connor’s extraordinary debut — fierce, fearless, vulnerable, uncompromising. An album that announced a completely unique voice to the world and has somehow only grown in stature with time #SineadOconnor
DC-area friends: today begins the Capclave science fiction/fantasy convention at the Rockville Hilton. Guests of Honor are authors Rebecca Roanhorse & Nino Cipri. This isn't a comic con type event--it's focused on books and great writers. Check it out! capclave.org
Any other Tor authors get a notice of disagreement in the Anthropic settlement allocation, with it now reading as the "default" amount instead of a specific percentage?
On my run this morning, small yellow leaves drifted down on me in crazy numbers from no clear tree, so yes, it's October. youtube.com/watch?v=SykBbwU3…
Reviews from last weekend pt. 4: the Morgan Library has a mind-blowing tarot exhibit that ends this weekend. Bonus: a video clip from Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain. 2nd bonus--see library's Gutenberg Bible, then walk over to NY Public Library & see theirs too themorgan.org/exhibitions/ta…
Weekend reviews pt. 3: the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens has an ongoing Jim Henson exhibition. Even if you're not a huge Muppet fan, it's fascinating (and often quite bizarre) what he achieved in his work. And if you are a huge Muppet fan, it's the place to be.
Weekend reviews pt. 2: it's good that I waited until now to see the Frick collection, because I would've had no clue earlier in life how amazing it is--all greats with very little filler. The paired Holbeins of Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell were a particular highlight for me.
Reviews from weekend, part 1. #OperationMincemeat: The Musical is awesome--a madcap mostly comedic stage show where five actors play over 100 characters without regard to gender and with a few gut punching emotional moments. And all based on a real, macabre WWII deception op.
