And whilst we welcome a Reggio Emilia delegation currently visiting South Africa, here goes a piece of televised history so that we do not forget: #OliverTambo interviewed for @RaiDue about Reggio Emilia and the struggle against Apartheid. youtube.com/watch?v=fMSbT6MQ…
Today October 16 marks 50th anniversary of John Carlos & Tommie Smith #RaisedFists, with silver medalist Peter Norman standing in solidarity. They all wore patches of the Olympic Project for Human Rights. Ceasing participation of apartheid South Africa, was among their demands.
"The seed of #TheLiberationProjectSA was germinated during a visit to Italy in a bit of a pilgrimage to meet my family & find out more about my roots, as I was born in Ferrara, an area very rich in partisan resistance history & heritage. I came to South Africa when I was 6 y.o.

Whilst there, I was struck by the idea that the partisan resistance songs and our own songs of freedom from South Africa had great synergy. A great connection, since Reggio Emilia - the province where I come from - was very involved with the South African liberation movement.

Honoré Daumier's The Uprising showing a man leading a crowd, sleeves rolled up & a clenched fist up high, was most likely inspired by the Revolution of 1848 in Paris. Art historians have called the painting “a symbol of pent-up human indignation.” #ClenchedFist #WisdomWednesday

I can Hear My Papa Calling, a song played yesterday at the #InternationalLaunch, tells the story of Karim Franceschi, a young Italian activist who fought in the Syrian civil war for the People’s Protection Unit (YPG) against the Islamic State during the Siege of Ayn al-Arab.
