I know what I’ll be doing over the Memorial Day weekend! 😅 I just received my annual delivery of bulk cedar mulch from a local garden center. This year I got 2 cubic yards to put around my garden beds and cedar hedge. #saynotosingleuse #plasticfree #ecofriendly #zerowaste

Buying mulch (and soil) in bulk means #noplasticbags go to landfill (they’re not recyclable). It also means I won’t have to worry about making multiple trips to the store, hurting my back carrying them or getting my car dirty 🙌 Let the #zerowaste garden season begin! 💚☀️🌱

4 months of trash to the curb today, and it’s full of $h!T 😂 This bin filled up pretty quickly thanks to two major changes at our house: a new tile floor in my family room and a second cat 🐈🐈‍⬛ The tiling job was a one-time mess, but the cat is, well, a regular thing 😜

Used cat litter made up about half my garbage bin with just one cat, so two cats means twice the litter. I doubt I can get back to one trash bin a year with my two furry friends, but they’re worth it 🤗 Here’s to a fresh start! 💚 Happy new year, everyone!

Meet Mocha, the newest member of our family 😍 We adopted this sweet, talkative girl in October. She was considered a compassionate adoption due to her skin condition, but we’re working on getting her better 🤗

The body and turtleneck are made from one sleeve, her sleeves are made from the neckband, and the hem is made from the original hem. If I need another sweater for her, I could make a second one out of this same sweater. Or I could fix it up so we’d have matching sweaters! 😂

Today I made my first ever, evergreen wreath! 🤩 After several years, my artificial wreath finally gave out, littering the area where it was stored with plastic needles and Styrofoam berries 😢 So I took it apart, threw away the plastic parts and saved the frame for future use.

I cut off some branches with pruning shears then tied them to my metal frame using jute twine. I then attached some foraged pine cones with metal ornament hooks. For additional scents and texture, I stuffed in some dried lavender and pine needles from my yard 😊

I’m very happy with how my wreath turned out though my hands are still itching from the prickly juniper branches 😜 When I make next year’s wreath, I’ll look for balsam, cedar or pine branches 🌲 #diywreath #naturalwreath #tinytrashcan

Need a cheap and easy #halloweencostume? I made this #DIY bat costume with a XXL black t-shirt I bought at a thrift store for $6 😃 I already owned the black halter top and yoga pants (both hand me downs) so all I had to do was make the wings! 👍 #greenhalloween #tinytrashcan

For bat ears, I made two mini buns with my hair—no waste there! 😆 Since I'll be wearing this #halloweencostume to a Latin dance party, I needed something that would be comfortable and easy to move in. This lightweight, stretchy costume idea would also be great for kids! 😊

Japanese scientists find microplastics are present in clouds Researchers in Japan have confirmed that microplastics are present in clouds, where they are likely affecting the climate in ways that are not yet fully understood. The team identified nine different types of polymers and one type of rubber in the airborne microplastics, which ranged in size from 7.1 to 94.6 micrometres. Each litre (0.26 gallon) of cloud water tested contained between 6.7 to 13.9 pieces of the plastics. When microplastics reach the upper atmosphere and are exposed to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight, they degrade, contributing to greenhouse gasses, Okochi said. aljazeera.com/news/2023/9/28…

9 months of trash to the curb today! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it a full year thanks to some home improvement projects 😬 Also in my trash bin this time: the bag from my central vacuum cleaner filled with 7 years of dust and dirt! 😜 #zerowastechallenge #lowwaste

Even though I didn't make my goal of one trash bin for the whole year, that won't stop me from continuing to avoid waste as much as possible. In fact, I'm headed to the #refill store today to buy cooking oils and cleaning supplies! 💚 #progressnotperfection #lessismore #wasteless

My friend gave me some #rhubarb from his garden yesterday, which prompted me to make my first ever #rhubarbcrisp! 💪 The original recipe calls for only rhubarb, but since I didn't have enough, I did a 50/50 mix of rhubarb and fresh strawberries 🍓 #fromthegarden #homecooking

To use up the leftover lemon juice, I made a pitcher of homemade lemonade. Then, as I was cleaning up, I noticed some sweet strawberry rhubarb juice in the bottom of my mixing bowl. So I added that to my lemonade pitcher to make a delicious pink lemonade! 😋
