After two years of research and a lot of help from Twitter, I finally have a heat pump! Lots of thanks to @jesseb4me, @Merrion, @jimmybb, @techpoodle, and countless others I’m sure I’ve forgotten.

I've enjoyed using @iwantmyname for years, but they've just announced a colossal price hike for .com renewals. Mine is going from £16.99 / year to £30.49 / year. I get that Verisign have made some changes on their end, but I can't see anything that justifies such a renewal hike?

People will die today due to this negligence. Not even an ounce of sorry. Did the lawyers tell you to lack remorse, @George_Kurtz?
CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website. We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.

Heating Twitter, I need help! My boiler has packed in. We have air con for heating, but we use the boiler for DHW. The radiators are still installed, we just don’t use them (they’re a back up though). Hopefully it can just be fixed… But if not, what do I do? Cont…

A heat battery could fit in our shallow airing cupboard. It’s greener and doesn’t have the peak power issues, but I’m not at all used to running out of hot water, they’re expensive, and don’t provide heating back up. Cont…

We probably can’t use off peak tariffs with a heat battery as we can’t shift most of our demand (air con in winter and no off street parking for our ID3). What are your thoughts? @robsmallshire, @Merrion, @jesseb4me, @heatpolicyrich, @techpoodle, @betateach, @janrosenow

Three weeks of interrailing around Italy are coming to an end, but at least I bagged a good seat home. (It’s sadly not THE seat.) @seatsixtyone

Hey @speak2thegeek, IIRC, was it you that had the issue with your @OctopusEnergy heat pump install whereby you were required to get a noise assessment carried out? At maximum output, my parent’s design is 1db over the limit.

As far as we can tell, someone there is just an obvious busy body who seems to find it necessary to review heat pump applications. My parents are about a year into the process, and they’re about to give up quite frankly.

Sadly, @OctopusEnergy don’t seem to be helping on this front. How did you get this resolved in the end? @g__j - my parents love your company, but they’re very disappointed that such an annoying issue can come up so late in the process. Is this normal?

I’m feeling increasingly justified for avoiding this industry like the plague: Homes insulated in government scheme go mouldy bbc.com/news/articles/cxwwr7… Too many horror stories to practically and reliably recommend? @betateach @heatpolicyrich @theheatinghub

Mid-terraces are a bit harder. Upstairs, go into the loft and install a unit that ducts air via the ceiling of the rooms below. Downstairs, mount in the rear corner of the living room. You might need a pump to get collected moisture outside. Cont.

What about hot water? If you want to, go for a hot water tank. But what if you don’t have the space? I think electric combis are fine for this. By the time you’ve saved on gas standing charge and servicing, the cost difference won’t be too noticeable. Cont.

Won’t that draw lots of power from the grid when everyone’s having their morning showers? Not if we pair them with small high output batteries. These could be installed at a later time for those on a budget? Not sure. What do you think @betateach. What have I missed?

How do you get power to the outdoor units? Many of these homes have their consumer units by the front door. Do what I did: take the cable up to below the first floor, and run it along your joists to the rear corner of your property. This was the most disruptive part. Cont…

The end terraces like mine are easy - just run the refrigerant lines and power supplies down the alley way, or up to the rooms. Come directly into a wall mounted unit.

My proposal for low hassle, life upgrading, terraced house heating decarbonisation: Many homes in the UK are the Victorian/Edwardian style L shaped terrace houses. Place an A2A compressor on the inside of the L, either wall or floor mounted. Cont…
Replying to @draccoops
On external walls but other options. Upstairs can run to something like this in loft which then has small (6 inch) intake and outlet ducts in ceilings of upstairs rooms.

Semi-personal question - how do you approach flying in respect to GHG emissions? Do you avoid it altogether? Do you set yourself a budget? Do you avoid it where reasonably possible? Do you offset it with carbon removal offsets? If so, which offsets? Something else?
