At the park, a kid walked up to me and said, "It's so beautiful!"
"Awn. Thank you," I said, thinking he meant my blouse.
"What is it?"
"Ankara."
He laughed. "No, it's not ankuwa. It's a bug."

I followed his eyes. A cockroach was making its fine way up my fine print.
I grabbed it, threw it on the grass, and crushed it with my slipper.
The boy turned red. "Mommy! This lady with an accent killed the bug!"

A man stopped at my table at the book fair and picked up Haven.
"Is this a love story?"
"It's about a woman who keeps choosing wrong."
He laughed. Said his wife would love it. Bought two copies.
"How would you like me to sign it?" I asked.
"For Bisi. Love Tony."
Twenty minutes later, he came back without the bag and asked me to sign the second one to Nancy.
Wait, isn't his wife's name Bisi?
I signed it. He tipped me $20. I went home and put him in chapter nine.
