Sharing this thread with a bunch of new SREs that are still in the firefighting phase.

And so your incentive to get better as an SRE is that as your base gets more reliable you spend less of your playtime on firefighting (resource outages, deadlocked production, dealing with enemy attacks manually, repairs) and more on deep concentration to make factory better.

Is this where I apply for the train girlie caucus @savthorpe? I've been eager to apply but haven't had any business travel for a while.

there's a bus stop in indy that drivers kept demolishing that a certain agency in charge of works for the public wouldn't put a bollard in front of because they unironically were worried that a driver would die if they hit the bollard going that fast

Platelet donation is one of the laziest and coziest ways to help folks. Big use in cancer treatment, and the donation process involves 45 minutes of screen time or reading with a warm blanket. Would love a donation site at at the Lancaster City @LGHealth location.
Blood supplies are persistently low and @LGHealth encourages everyone who can to donate blood and platelets. oneunitedlancaster.com/commu…

Just thinking about how @Authy is my favorite authenticator app for no particular reason. Secure, multi-device including laptop/desktop, free.

Whoa, $284 minimum fee for ASCAP special event licensing. And "contact us!" for BMI. Background music at a few events looks much less attractive now.

But when I showed up to the store on Park Rd, I had to wait for 40 minutes for them to wheel my groceries out of the parking deck. They didn't know how to handle me, a customer who simply walked up to their store. 2/3

Lancaster friends, I'll be placing a KC BBQ store order soon and I want to share my love of Joe's KC Fry Seasoning. Let me know if you want a bottle. If you like potatoes, you want a bottle. thekansascitybbqstore.com/pr…

And shipping those goods on union railroads with the help of union workers right, Joe? The ones you're trying to sell out?
For too long, we've shipped American jobs overseas. On my watch, we're shipping products overseas. And we're making those products with union labor in union-built factories.

watching young people sheepishly crossing the starbucks picket line while avoiding eye contact or going "sorry 😅" has made me a bit more insane

Agreed re: mastodon. I ran my own email and XMPP services, and I'll probably end up running a mastodon instance. But that doesn't help non-technical folks or folks who don't want to DIY sysadmin.
a friend's post about mastodon is really resonating w/ me this morning and is a good reason why I don't think the service is likely to gain a broad base of support: the decision to use it isn't based on UX, but rather, ideology cohost.org/tef/post/298638-s…

And I could run an instance for friends, but then I'm signing up for 24x7 $0 on-call duty. And I don't have long term faith in any of the free instances: they run on the free time of their admins, and free time is a precious commodity, so I can't recommend them.
Whoever bought that Eli Lilly blue check has to hold the title for spending the most consequential $8 in modern human history
