Statement of the Green Party of Ukraine
The Green Party of Ukraine (GPU) expresses its deep disappointment with recent statements by newly elected Australian Greens leader Senator David Shoebridge regarding the refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
We sincerely thank the Australian Greens for supporting humanitarian missions and calling for a complete embargo on Russian oil. At the same time, we emphasise that refusing to provide defensive weapons to a country waging a just war of liberation is a dangerous illusion that plays into the hands of the aggressor, Vladimir Putin.
The Green Party of Ukraine emphasises:
Dogmatic pacifism kills. As part of the global environmental movement, we share a commitment to peace. However, pacifism in the face of a ruthless invader does not stop war — it leads to occupation and the destruction of an entire nation. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The absurdity of a “UN veto”. Senator Shoebridge’s demand that arms supplies be authorised through the UN Security Council, where Russia holds the power of veto, is detached from reality. It is equivalent to asking a criminal for permission to call the police.
Russia’s war is causing massive ecocide. Russian forces deliberately destroy dams, mine millions of hectares of Ukraine’s fertile black soil, burn unique nature reserves and poison Europe’s water resources. Environmental protection is impossible without protecting the people who live in that environment. The only way to stop this ecological catastrophe is to stop the Russian army by force.
Unity among the global Greens. Green parties across Europe have long recognised this threat. They are at the forefront of political forces demanding maximum military assistance for Ukraine. We call on our Australian colleagues to follow the example of their European Green counterparts.
The Green Party of Ukraine welcomes the position taken by Australian Senator Sarah Hanson-Young Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and those members of the Australian Greens who have publicly spoken out in defence of Ukraine.
We call on David Shoebridge to reconsider his position, listen to the voices of Ukrainian environmentalists and support the provision of defensive weapons to Ukraine. Only victory over the aggressor can restore lasting peace and security to the European continent.

Not well understood but the median age pensioner is in much better financial health than the median working age person. Own home outright, concessions, low/no personal income tax, lower cost of living and higher financial wealth. Policy should consider these facts.

Shame really - financial stress for under 65s is dramatically higher than those over 65 and so those over 65 do not need a larger PHI rebate than working age persons. That money could be better spent elsewhere. xitter.cf/Mon4Kooyong/status/211…
That feeling when you knock off the government’s pensioner cash grab 🥳
Today in Canberra, a Senate motion introduced by Jacqui Lambie and Anne Ruston blocked the government’s unfair PHI rebate cuts for over-65s. This result builds on the amendment I introduced in the House, and my PBO analysis which showed the government’s changes would have taken $1.5bn out of the pockets of pensioners.
The government has had a shocker with this Bill, as they’ve refused to reveal the full extent of its unfair impacts. But this is such a big win for older Australians, who will retain the support they’ve invested in for decades, and keep the pressure off our overstretched public hospitals.

This is just amazing. "We need to wipe out Gaza. Not a genocide, God forbid. But Gaza as a terrorist entity with 1.8m Nazis [entirety of Gaza's population - DR] should stop existing."
So: Wipe out a city of 1.8 people, because every one of them is an enemy.
But - not a genocide.

It’s still fascinating to hear people say “international law is useless” when the biggest military power in the world is this openly terrified of it.

Real wage growth occurs in tight labor markets. This is the great indictment of monetary policy during the neoliberal period. They kept hiking in response to labor market tightness rather than inflation itself, systematically hurting workers through the cycle. policytensor.substack.com/p/…
This is a really super analysis of US wage trends since 1982, all in clear English and simple charts. Well worth a read by everyone. Very solid on the facts and I largely agree with the interpretations @CardiffGarcia

It's clear the plan is to blame Ukrainian refinery attacks for high gas prices, and portray Trump as working with Putin to save both nations. And the only way to stop the barbarism is to vote GOP in November. It's breathtaking in its cynicism, and it won't work.
Rachel Campos-Duffy claims Ukraine has killed "a million kids on the Russian side"
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
No evidence supports Ukraine killing "a million kids" on the Russian side. UN OHCHR verified ~820 child deaths in Ukraine since 2022 (mostly Russian attacks). Russian officials report hundreds of Russian child casualties.

You should explain your “anyone can leave” policy to Netanyahu. He explicitly stated that only 50 patients per day would be allowed to leave through Rafah.
So yes, cruelty is the policy.
