One of my favorite quotes: A thing is perfect, not when there's nothing left to add, but when there's nothing left to take away. - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Airman's Odyssey

You remember the old slug bug routine of course. Well, my 13-year-old daughter and I invented "cyber slap". It's just a slap on a leg or the arm anytime a cyber truck drives by. I hereby approve its future and widespread use, without license.

It's a bite-sized attempt at art

I needed a little confidence boost. Took a 20 question "IQ" test from an ad on here (was a fun series of questions actually), I know it's pretty much bullshit, but come on! a guy can have a fun/fake win once in a while. We'll be taking numbers ladies, one at a time please. One at a time.

This remains the most profound meme I've ever seen.

I must be doing something wrong with Claude. The types of requests that I have take Claude 20 l, 30, 40 minutes, for seemingly simple tasks that would take a human 5 or 10 minutes to complete. In this case, I want it to up open a word doc, review a bunch of wording that I pasted in the chat, grab a specific bullet point that I called out, and change one paragraph in the word doc. I must have hit allow once, or always allow, on 40 different small prompts at this point. Total time is currently 25 minutes and it's not done yet.

Based on a lightweight professional usage, seems to me that if you're good at explaining task requests to people, you'll be good at explaining things to AI.

Found this in the front of my fishing boat. Might be time to think about moving! :)

I consistently wrestle with how to be more content in all aspects of my life, and how to ramp up my ambition enough to achieve a higher amount of my ideas and goals.

Accidentally washed the shop rags with the face clothes, and now my daughter is giving me dirty looks.

I'm looking for a woman whose bookmarks match mine, roughly 70% of the time or more. Since bookmarks are private, progress is slow (zero). I plan to keep bookmarking though, to build data.

I'm sure you all have a lot of important things going on, but I present to you, a sandwich.

One of the reasons that TV and movies are enjoyable to me is that every line of communication is understood by everyone else in the scene. Sure, unless it's part of a comedy bit where they don't understand and it's part of the storyline, or the occasional seemingly unintentional miscommunication that's written in, otherwise no one explains things more than once. Every line is understood and responded to accurately with another line. That's so rare in the real world. I have to hear people "say what they meant to say, while they were thinking about the thing that they said, and didn't say, and here's what I actually meant", all the time in the business world. "Yeah what I meant was".... I love how every line of communication on screen lands.

Woke up, smashed the like button on a bazillion posts. Told my dad the news, he says "why weren't you a Delta force operator".

What do you think it would take to convince our entire country not to pay taxes this year? From all this shit about fraud that is inundating my timeline, thinking about paying income taxes feels like eating glass. This level of fraud by those that we are supposed to be able to trust seems like treason (adhering to US enemies, giving aid and comfort), which used to be a hanging offense.

How I like to motivate my team. This one was part of a message on raising billability 5% for improved cashflow. Keep in mind none of us have combat experience, and all of us use Microsoft Teams all day: Hey guys, the battle is going great. Um, the enemy is coming up the hill to our left, and Gary got bored and shot most of our ammo at that tree over there. Almost hit it too! But everything’s fine, we have a few rounds left, and this flamethrower here that I haven’t had a chance to use yet that will probably do the job just fine… 😊

I like to add a new company benefit each year, if I can, for my Professional Services team. Couple years ago I added birthdays off, as a vacation day. Next, I'm thinking of starting a birthday bonus. $1,000 if you're still alive next year, and the day off. I anticipate the program to be frequently used.

Did a final punch-list walk with the design and construction team on a cool stream restoration project today. We did a bunch of cool vegetation transplants on this project. Total project cost (mostly earthwork/riprap) 1.8M. Cruised over to my favorite barbecue joint afterwards, we usually end the meeting around lunch time. As I got out of my dirty 21-year-old jeep, a car with three younger (than me) very pretty blonde girls started to pull out of the parking space next to me. The cutie in the back smiled at me, I smiled back, she smiled more and waved. Absolutely made my day. Well, that and the pulled pork sammy. Hot girl summer has started!

I try to add one benefit a year, something little but consistent, to keep our benefits package fresh. Couple years ago I added birthdays off, for example. I thought this year we should add an additional government holiday day off, and made the mistake of asking the team for their input. You should have heard the proposals! It ranged from most religious holidays, to any/all pagan holidays (summer solstice), and every official government holiday you can think of. One person suggested we never work Fridays again. Apparently, we will now all be working approximately 35 days for the remainder of 2025 :)
