Most of the European Democracy Shield is about rules, platforms, and detection. The part I find most important is the third pillar: societal resilience.
Rules can slow disinformation down. They cannot make people resilient to it. That is a #communication job.
Over the last three years I worked on several EU-funded projects on #disinformation. Three lessons stayed with me.
1. Reach people before the false story does. In our experience, preparing people in advance worked better than chasing false claims after they had spread.
2. The messenger matters as much as the message. Young people and seniors listened to voices they already trusted: civil society organisations, media professionals, local influencers. Not always to institutions.
3. Count effect, not only reach. The project reports more than 300,000 people reached. The harder and more useful question is what changed in how they recognise manipulation.
The Shield puts media literacy and citizen engagement next to regulation. That is the right balance. But it will only work if EU communication is planned for effect from day one, not measured for reach at the end.

B2B buyers are building shortlists inside #ChatGPT, #Claude, #Gemini, #Copilot, and #Perplexity before they ever hit your site. LinkedIn just published a useful guide on how to show up in those answers.
The headline finding: LinkedIn is the #1 most-cited domain for professional queries in AI search. Articles drive about 60% of those citations. Posts drive the other 40%, often as the path into the longer piece.
What actually gets cited is less about volume and more about extractability:
•A clear question in the title or first line
•A short answer up top, then the proof
•Lists, numbers, and a point of view only you could write
•The same themes repeated by the company page, executives, and employees
Rankings and click-through rate no longer tell the full story. Citations, share of voice, and sentiment do.

We're expanding our approach to content provenance to include text in response to EU regulatory requirements, while recognizing the significant limitations of current text watermarking technology.
Our tools already help verify whether an image or audio file was created with our models. This work builds on those efforts to help people better understand when content may have been generated or edited with an OpenAI model.
In the EU, we’ll start watermarking eligible text from ChatGPT and Codex over the coming weeks to comply with the EU AI Act.
Customers using our API can turn on text watermarking for select models worldwide today.
Artificial intelligence is changing education. But what does that mean for teachers?
@UNESCO's AI Competency Framework for Teachers sets out 15 competencies across five key areas, including AI ethics, pedagogy and a human-centred approach.
The goal? To help teachers harness AI while keeping human agency and teachers’ rights at the heart of education.

I spent most of this year advising SMEs and research teams on their European Defence Fund applications. The 2026 round closed on 29 September. Some of what I saw is worth passing on.
Five things come up again and again.
The call document is not background reading. It is the specification. Eligible activity types, page limits, consortium composition, mandatory annexes, award criteria and their weights are all in there. Most of the trouble I saw started with somebody reading it once in February and never going back.
Check your tasks against the activity table. Research actions usually stop at design. Prototyping and testing are not eligible. Design covers partial tests for risk reduction, and that wording matters. I saw work packages labelled as design that contained full system demonstrations. That is not a lost point, it is a scope problem.
Budget should follow the work, not the headcount. An equal split across partners feels fair and reads badly. And if your budget was written for you without being discussed with you, raise it early. Once the proposal is built around that number, nobody wants to reopen it.
One document, many authors. Partners named in the narrative with no task in the work plan. Work package leads who differ between the text and the table. Old titles in the budget file. Editor notes left in the text. None of this is about writing quality, it is about version control.
Ask the hard questions in week one. Establishment and ownership control. Whether the minimum consortium composition really holds. Signed member state support where the call requires it. What the funding form obliges each partner to carry. These end proposals, and they are all knowable at the start.
One more thing for the SMEs. A consortium that does not reach submission is not wasted time. Several teams I worked with learned more from stopping than they would have from submitting something that could not pass. They will be back in the next round in much better shape.
Results are expected in March 2027. Happy to talk to anyone preparing for the next one.

No social media under the age of 13. No personal accounts under the age of 15. That’s our recommendation.
As European Commission President, @vonderleyen said: “The question is not whether kids should have access to social media. The question is whether social media platforms should have access to our children.”
