Some rare good news for the U.S. Navy: Multiple carriers have either just returned to service, or are about to, following scheduled maintenance and upgrades
Could Southwest make a play to acquire American Airlines? AA’s biggest strength lies in domestic flying, especially sunbelt routes. They trail far behind UA and DL in international. SWA does not have many east coast hubs. AA does. The idea might not be as crazy as it sounds.
Saudi Arabia really couldn’t have screwed this up worse. The situation in Yemen has deteriorated so quickly that it might take Chinese involvement to get the Red Sea back under control.

America has always had a high % of ignorance among its populace. If you want to be nice about it, you can apportion some of it to some being apolitical or "low information voters."
But - what we have now in a greater degree than ever before - is a WILLFULLY ignorant populace, many of whom are targeted - relentlessly pummeled by algorithms and in echo chambers. I'm not excusing them, just explaining. They've chosen distrust and imitative behavior; and it's a lot more than racism and stupidity.
A lot of it is loneliness leading to disaffection, unhappiness leading to grievance, fear leading to blame and hate ... and what does this produce? It produces an increased inability for some to tell fact from feeling, information from validation, expert opinion from conspiratorial belief.
Some of this is simply the human condition - we are a fragile species. Every time I see my dog sniff on the ground for food, he does it without fear, without lamenting the past, without foreboding the future. He's consumed by the task. There's a purity to that - BUT - my dog can easily choose to ingest something toxic from the ground; he needs a human with a leash.
MAGA is like a dog sniffing on the ground, consuming toxic substance, and the validation they have for it is that all the dogs in their neighborhood are doing it.
In fairness, it's not only MAGA that does this, but certainly they are the largest segment where they do it habitually. And the key for MAGA is the sniffing on the ground doesn't have to result in food, it's enough for them that their sniffing deprives others of the scent.
Which is why I think that a better analogy is that MAGA is more like a rodent who keeps pulling down on a lever to release the next hit of dopamine. Some are becoming aware of this. Others remain unaware - unaware that their independence is choreographed, unaware that their premises are faulty, and unaware that each time they press the lever, the tank they're standing in becomes more filled with water (or Kool-Aid), and soon they'll be submerged.
NIL money for college athletes should be required to go into trust accounts that payout over an extended period of time through some sort of annuity. The majority of student athletes are too young and do not have the financial knowledge to responsibly manage these funds.
If Michigan were to play Texas Tech in a bowl game this season I think most of America would likely root for a weather delay
The Michigan “win” would also likely be a lot easier for many in college football to accept had Michigan not been caught cheating recently. The program basically spent the past five years mired in several different scandals that ran the gauntlet from cheating to criminal acts
An no, Michigan does not have any business even sniffing around for a spot in the polls this week. That is not a good football team right now
There are too many weekends in college football that are essentially exhibition weekends. Power 4 teams should only be allowed to schedule one game against a cream puff opponent

We want our fucking country back. Your neighbor is not your enemy. The teacher down the street. The farmer in Iowa. The Black mother in the Bronx. The white guy driving a pickup truck in Kentucky. The immigrant pouring concrete in August. The boy holding another boys hand. The MAHA mom reading the ingredients on a cereal box. None of them is your enemy.
We have been sold a magnificent steaming pile of bullshit. We have been told that America is two hungry tribes crouched on opposite sides of a river, sharpening knives, waiting for the opportunity to wade across and murder one another.
The great political scam of our time was convincing 340 million people who share a country, schools, roads, rivers, grocery stores, hospitals, fears, children, mortgages, illnesses, dreams and funerals that we have nothing in common. That we are enemies.
There is an enormous amount we agree on. We want clean water. Clean air. We don’t want corporations filling our children’s bodies with poison. We don’t want plastic in our oceans, our soil, our blood and our babies. We want food that is actually fucking food. We want our children educated. We want to be able to go to the doctor without wondering whether the bill will bankrupt us.
We want a decent job. We want Social Security when we’re old. We want politicians to stop using public office as an ATM. We don’t want political violence. We don’t want our government owned by billionaires. We want our votes to matter. We want a country where the law applies to the rich bastard in the penthouse as surely as it applies to the poor bastard standing before a judge.
And while we’re being made afraid of one another, somebody is picking our fucking pockets. The billionaires figured something out before the rest of us did: Anger, fear, loneliness, and resentment are business models. And Donald Trump understood the product better than anybody. Grievance. Barrels and barrels of grievance. Bottle it. Brand it. Sell it.
Tell a man whose factory disappeared that an immigrant stole his country. Tell a struggling mother that some other struggling mother is getting something she isn’t. Tell rural America the cities despise them. Tell the cities rural America wants to destroy them. Tell white people Black people are coming for them. Tell Black people every white neighbor is secretly waiting to put them back in chains.
Keep everybody suspicious. Keep everybody angry. Keep everybody separated. Rape us one by one. Then watch as Trump and the billionaires walk through the wreckage taking everything. We all see it.
Democracy will be saved by finding the places where we already agree and building from there. Citizenship is not a subscription service. Democracy is not something delivered to your doorstep. You don’t get to order it from Amazon. You don’t get to complain that democracy is dying while sitting on the toilet scrolling Instagram. Democracy requires something from us. Time. Courage. Attention. Neighbors. Argument. Forgiveness. Work.
And sometimes the willingness to stand up and say No. No, you will not make me hate my neighbor. No, you will not make me afraid of somebody because they pray differently or vote differently or love differently or were born somewhere else. You will not convince me that cruelty is strength. You will not convince me that corruption is patriotism. You will not convince me that billionaires need another tax break while teachers buy their own fucking pencils. No, you will not divide us and then sell off the pieces to the oligarchs.
Reimagine the country. Rebuild the democracy. Rework the communities. Find each other again. Fight like hell for the enormous territory we share. Because beneath all the noise and bullshit and algorithms and campaign advertisements, there is still a country here. Ours
Don’t usually plug hotels but the Omni Boston Seaport was terrific. One of the best hotel stays I’ve had in recent years.
American needs to only allow passengers to use the lavatory in their ticketed cabin. People don’t drop thousands for tickets in a premium cabin to keep having to wait to use the bathroom due to an endless procession of coach customers.
If Kamala Harris had seriously wanted to run for president again she would have started campaigning the day after Trump was inaugurated, not basically vanished from the public eye for a year and a half.
The Trump admin’s efforts to enhance the so-called “economic blockade” on Iran actually increases the risk that Iran expands the war within the region and possibly even into Europe. The U.S. has already proven it does not have the military capability to effectively counter this.
Everyone who is convinced that American failures in Iran means that Taiwan is available for China to take need to look more closely at Taiwan’s increasing ability to deploy drones against Chinese ships
