Climate Fear Sells: The Telegraph Discovers the ‘Uninsurable’ Home Climate change is making your home uninsurable! That's the headline, but look behind it and you find a press release by a PR outfit touting some very dubious claims about floods and finance

Building a replacement for fossil fuels still requires fossil fuels. What if that effort consumes the very resources needed to keep civilisation running? That is the dilemma Richard Lyon explores in The Energy Trap. Wind turbines, solar panels and batteries require mining, refining, manufacturing and transport—all heavily dependent on fossil energy. Lyon argues that wind and solar cannot replace hydrocarbons at industrial scale and that building them accelerates the depletion of the fossil resources on which society still relies. With cheap conventional oil declining, he sees an “energy trap”: spending a dwindling inheritance on a replacement that cannot sustain modern industrial civilisation. His proposed escape is a major expansion of nuclear power, accompanied by a planned reduction in total energy use. Energy economist @tilakdoshi shares much of Lyon’s criticism of the renewable energy transition. But he challenges the leap from resource depletion to unavoidable economic contraction. Oil resources, Doshi argues, are not a fixed economic quantity. Technology, investment and prices change what can be recovered profitably. Horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing opened up resources previously considered uneconomic. Nor does a lower energy return automatically mean that an oil project cannot make money. Their disagreement matters. Both recognise the essential role of fossil fuels and the limitations of wind and solar. But Lyon sees a future that requires managing scarcity; Doshi argues that this outlook underestimates the capacity of markets, innovation and human ingenuity to overcome constraints.

Andy Burnham's vision of the "common good" – with Net Zero at its heart – is just reheated Fabian socialism, and the fingerprints of Left-wing economist Mariana Mazzucato are all over it. (article in comment below)

This is the European Commission. 27 people that were never elected. Are unaccountable to anybody And all share the same characteristic that they were total political failures in their home countries. Sent to Brussels as a reward for coming second or third. Yet the EU, by deliberate design, makes these by far the most powerful people in its ranks. They decide the EU laws. Viva Brexit!

Germany and California parade as climate superpowers – yet both import energy, destroy industry and hand supply chains to Beijing. Western virtue is made in Chinese coal-fired factories. Do you think China is taking the West (excluding Trump's America) for a ride?

From The Limits to Growth (1972) to the Planetary Health Check (2026): according to economist @tilakdoshi, mainly the packaging has changed. The message remains familiar: humanity is breaching the planet’s limits, time is running out — but disaster can still be avoided if society undergoes a far-reaching economic and social transformation. Doshi therefore asks a fundamental question: who actually decides when a “planetary boundary” has been crossed? Physics — or the researchers who selected the boundary? More than 60 scientists contributed to the Planetary Health Check. But science is not decided by majority vote. Doshi recalls Albert Einstein’s response to the 1931 book Hundert Autoren gegen Einstein: if he were wrong, one author would have been enough. Sixty scientists do not make a hypothesis true. Evidence, testability and falsifiability ultimately matter. Doshi’s conclusion: the doom thinking of 1972 is back more than half a century later — in a new scientific jacket.

WARMING IS DUE TO FEWER CLOUDS (ALBEDO) & NOT GREENHOUSE GASES! “Clouds are the Earth’s sunshade, and if cloud cover changes for any reason, you have global warming — or global cooling.” "Our analysis revealed that the solar forcing (i.e., TSI and albedo changes) measured by CERES explain 100% of the observed global warming trend and 83% of the interannual GSAT variability over the past 24 years, including the extreme 2023 heat anomaly. Albedo changes were found to be by far the dominant GSAT driver, while TSI variations only played a minor, modulating role. The sustained increase of sunlight absorption by the planet was also identified as the most likely driver of ocean warming in recent decades based on a high correlation (R2 = 0.8) between the shortwave radiation uptake and the mean annual temperature anomaly of the 0–100 m global oceanic layer. These results suggest a lack of physical reality to both the anthropogenic radiative forcing attributed to rising greenhouse gases and the positive (amplifying) feedbacks hypothesized by the greenhouse theory and simulated by climate models. This is because any real forcing (or amplifying feedback) outside of the increased planetary uptake of solar radiation would have produced additional warming above and beyond the amount explained by changes in the planetary albedo and TSI. However, no such extra warming is observed in the available temperature records. Hence, the anthropogenic radiative forcing and associated positive feedbacks are likely model artifacts rather than real phenomena."
