i don’t want to be unkind but girl it is very very easy to tell which is which
These two passages depict the same subject matter in an identical style.
One is from Fifty Shades of Grey. The other is from Sally Rooney’s Normal People.
I bet you can't even tell which is which.
If we have the sensibility to dismiss one as a trashy romance novel, then why do we continue to celebrate the other as serious literature?

Incredible. Don’t forget on 17th of October, 1961 France killed hundreds (exact number is unknown) of Algerians dressed in their best clothing protesting in the most ‘civilized’ way in Paris. Their bodies were thrown in the river. In addition, 12,000 Algerians were detained by police. This was during the Algerian war of independence.

You cry over a French town hall while your taxes fund the bombs flattening Gaza, Lebanon & Syria. The colonizer weeps for his stones but dances on our graves. Western "civilization" is a graveyard built on our bones

I think American critics have a narrow mentality when it comes to Hispanic (and Latin American, even if this is not the case) works because how intrinsically baroque our language/art/emotions tend to be. They love Japanese/Korean movies, and almost never Indian ones, conversely.

What I can’t stop thinking about is that they did all of this right as a high profile story about sexual assault at an Ivy is in the national spotlight. These dudes really do NOT give a fuck.
CNN has more on the U Chicago rape. The reporting on this incident keeps getting worse and worse. This is sick stuff!
"Shortly after, Lara said her friend was kissing the man near a wall before the pair disappeared. She started searching for her friend and later found his friends outside a bathroom in the basement, but the man and her friend were not with them.
The man’s friends told Lara to look upstairs, so she and her other friend checked there, on the porch and outside, before returning to the basement bathroom.
When they returned, Lara said she saw the man’s friends “banging on the door,” “cheering,” and saying, “they want to get in there.”"
--
"At this point, the group of men told Lara that their friend and her friend were inside the bathroom, she told CNN.
One of the men allegedly grabbed Lara’s other friend, told her not to worry and that the two were “having fun” in the bathroom, Lara said.
Though the door was locked, Lara said she found a way to shimmy it open and broke into the bathroom. She said she immediately told the man he needed to get off her friend and leave, but the man initially refused to leave.
Her friend was slumped on the bathroom floor, partially clothed, saying “get me out of here” and “I don’t want to be here,” Lara said, adding she had never seen her friend in that state before."
--
"When they got outside of the fraternity house, Lara said her friends went to sit on the sidewalk. She noticed the same group of men pointing and laughing at the woman who said she was assaulted, Lara said.
The men then point in the direction of the fraternity house and say the man she’s looking for was trying to get back into the party. When Lara looks in the direction of the fraternity house, she says the men took off running, and so she took off after them.
At one point, the men slow down and start laughing at Lara, and one of them takes out his phone and starts recording her, she told CNN.
---
"Lara said a campus police officer witnessed her chasing the man and asked her what happened.
She said she took the officer back to her friend to get her help.
The friend would later tell Lara she remembered there were two men in the bathroom at one point, one of whom “was pinning her down” and sexually assaulted her, Lara told CNN.
The victim went to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment, Chicago police said."

Vance is confronted by the emotional husband of a soldier killed in Iran War and acts like he had no idea anyone ever died:
Q: It's a hard price to pay. There's a failure in the leadership. How will the leadership be held accountable?
Vance: If there were failures... This is the first time I've heard of this.

The whole concept of this is absurd on its face. If you don’t coordinate a visit to a tiny Palestinian village with the IDF, you are liable to be attacked by feral Israeli settlers
The IDF strongly condemns the severe act of violence that took place in the area of Taybeh, during which diplomatic representatives were attacked by Israeli rioters.
Police forces and forensic investigators from the Judea and Samaria District are entering the area accompanied by IDF soldiers and will begin collecting findings and evidence, as well as taking testimonies, in support of an investigation that has been opened.
The consulate's visit was not coordinated with the IDF. Such coordination is important to prevent incidents of this kind.
According to a preliminary inquiry, no IDF soldiers were present at the scene at the time of the attack. The report was sent to the brigade operations room, which is designated to receive reports from security personnel only, and not from civilians. The operations room receives dozens of operational reports each day and responds only to authorized personnel, not civilians. It should be emphasized that other designated channels are available for civilians to submit complaints. All circumstances surrounding the incident will be examined.
