President Obama, you spoke about someone’s life being turned upside down by the full weight of the federal government. My wife, Bevelyn Williams, received 41 months in federal prison under Biden’s DOJ. Our daughter lost her mother’s presence at home. Emails later released by DOJ called that sentence an “incredible result” and “excellent news.” President Trump pardoned her and reunited our family. He did the right thing. Before you condemn him, address what your own political party did. Take the plank out of your own eye before pointing to the speck in someone else’s. Your statement hit home. I’m speaking from passion, firsthand experience with government weaponization, and victory. You describe Congresswoman Omar’s situation as political targeting by Trump. Reporting describes investigative activity under Biden. The magistrate judge who approved the search was selected by the district court, previously donated to Clinton and clerked for an Obama appointee. Those facts establish neither guilt nor motive. They belong in the whole story. So does my family. Bevelyn is a Black Christian mother and private citizen. The protest happened in June 2020. NYPD was present both days. She wasn’t arrested at the scene. James sued her civilly in February 2021. Biden’s DOJ obtained an indictment in December 2022, approximately two and a half years later and after Dobbs. Our family experienced retaliation after Dobbs. Her requested First Amendment jury instruction was denied. Our daughter lived with the consequences. Letitia James had plenty of fight for my wife. New Yorkers deserved that same fight from their attorney general. She had already pursued Bevelyn civilly. Then she publicly promised to come after her again. Meanwhile, federal inspectors documented failures in her office’s criminal enforcement against Medicaid fraud and patient abuse and neglect. Vulnerable patients. Nursing home residents. Taxpayers. Their interests were her responsibility too. She made pursuing my wife a public priority. Her own office’s failures became a matter of public record. I call that vindictive politics and failed leadership. President Obama, putting her in the victim’s chair does not erase the people her leadership failed. DOJ’s weaponization report documents coordination with outside advocacy groups, a dossier containing information about me and our infant daughter, and sentencing disparities in the cases compared. Congratulations were exchanged over my wife’s sentence. We faced separation. Since your party emphasizes identity, include this: Trump pardoned a Black woman and reunited a Black family. Biden’s DOJ obtained the sentence that separated us. My family does not hate Democrats. Disagreement does not have to become hatred. Many Democrats, Republicans and Independents reject socialism and communism and want secure borders and safe communities. What we agree upon can help heal this nation’s fractures. Selective outrage and incomplete stories are exhausting. Put the whole record before the American people. They can draw their own conclusions. Our family mattered before a pardon. Our pain deserves to matter even when our politics don’t match yours.
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

People ask me why I'm so obsessed with ruminants. I've given it some thought, and my conclusion is that I'm not obsessed enough. A cow walks onto a wet hillside that grows nothing a human can eat, puts her head down, and comes back with steak, butter, cream and a pair of boots. She does it with a 150 litre fermentation tank she carries inside her, stocked with more bacteria than there have ever been people, which she feeds, waters and keeps at blood heat herself. Grass goes in. The bacteria take apart the one thing no animal can digest, and she lives on what they make. Then she digests the bacteria as well. Nothing is wasted. Even the fat comes out the far side rebuilt into something stable enough to fry in. Fuel: rain and sunlight. Emissions: next year's grass. She repairs herself, builds her own replacement every spring, and improves the ground she is standing on while she works. The finest engineers alive have spent billions trying to copy one chamber of her stomach in a steel shed, and so far they have made a paste. We have leaned on that machine for everything. The word capital comes from cattle, because a herd was the first bank. Domesday Book is written on sheep, and so was every deed in England for 500 years. Ruminants clothed our armies, lit our houses and carried our laws. Civilisation is a thing that happened to people who kept them. And they are such good company about it. A sheep remembers fifty faces for two years, which is forty-six more than I manage. A cow has a best friend, and her heart rate drops when that friend is beside her. A goat that cannot solve a problem will turn and look to you for help, as a dog does, and then ignore your advice. Let a herd out onto spring grass after a winter indoors and half a tonne of animal will skip. They ask for grass, rain, and to be left to get on with it. After ten thousand years of feeding, dressing and housing us, they will still walk over to the gate to see who you are. So no, I will not be calming down.

Food bank demand in Toronto is up 300% since Carney became the economic advisor to the Liberal government. It is worse still since he became Prime Minister. He says affordability is the best it has been in over a decade. He is out of touch. Canadians are out of food.

Dear Secretary Bessent @SecScottBessent, My name is Everett Stern. In 2010 I was a compliance officer at @HSBC. From a back office in New Castle, Delaware, I watched billions of dollars move to drug cartels, sanctioned regimes, and terrorist organizations. The enemies of the United States. I documented it, I escalated it, and when the bank would not act, I took it to the @FBI, the @CIA, and eventually the @SECGov. The result was a $1.92 billion settlement. At the time, it was one of the largest in American history. It was also about five weeks of the bank’s profit. Not one banker was charged. Not one went to prison. I paid a different price. I lost my career, my savings, and my place in the industry I had trained for. I was blacklisted. Every door in American finance closed at once. I slept on a camping cot in a 300 square foot apartment because I could not afford a bed, and I waited tables at @PFChangs to eat. I tell you this not for sympathy, but so you understand that I know exactly what it costs to do the right thing in American finance, and exactly how little the system does in return. I made that sacrifice because I believed it would change something. Yesterday, your department fined @BankofAmerica $1.2 billion for failing to report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions, some of it tied by your own findings to Chinese laundering networks, narcotics, and the southwest border, alongside 475 apparent sanctions violations touching Russia, Iran, and global terrorism. The bank admitted it willfully violated the Bank Secrecy Act. Fourteen years after HSBC. A bank with “America” in its name. And once again, not one individual charged. Secretary Bessent, I want to say plainly what I believe you already know. The fines are not working. A fine is paid by shareholders, absorbed by the balance sheet, and forgotten by the next earnings call. Bank of America reported earnings this morning. Nobody who set the alert thresholds, nobody who decided the 2024 cease and desist could wait, nobody who chose the backlog over the law will lose a single thing they value. Their lives are untouched. That is the entire reason the behavior repeats. This is money laundering. This is blood money. Money that reaches a cartel buys fentanyl that kills Americans. Money that reaches a terrorist organization buys the next attack. This country has fought a war on drugs and a war on terror for decades, at enormous cost in lives and treasure, and all the while we have allowed the financing to flow through institutions we charter and regulate. Cut off the money and we win. We have never seriously tried. There is also a question of equal justice that I cannot let go. Before I walked into the FBI building to report HSBC, I stopped in front of the Great Seal on the wall and read the words engraved beneath it: “Justice is the defense of our liberty.” I believed that. I still want to. But every day in this country, people go to prison for crimes that are nothing next to moving money for the people who want Americans dead. A suit, a title, and a corporate badge should not be a shield from the consequences that apply to everyone else. If a street dealer goes to prison for what he sells, the banker who moved the cartel’s money should be standing next to him. I also want to raise something that is rarely said in these conversations. Why has no one inside Bank of America come forward the way I did? The answer is that everyone in American banking knows what happened to me, and to the whistleblowers who came after. The last person who spoke up is the only policy anyone believes. That is a culture problem, and it starts with leadership, in the banks and in the agencies that regulate them. This is not a political issue. It has spanned administrations of both parties. It is a national security issue, and I am asking you to treat it as one. Three things would change the math overnight. Refer individuals for criminal prosecution. Not the analyst in the queue. The executives who set the thresholds and chose the risk. One banker in handcuffs would do more than every fine in Treasury’s history combined. End “too big to jail.” An institution cannot be too big to fail and too big to jail at the same time. If it is the first, it must be held to a higher standard, not a lower one. And if Bank of America will not act as America’s bank, review its charter. A national charter is a privilege granted on behalf of the American people. It should be conditioned on not moving money for the people trying to kill them. Secretary Bessent, you said yesterday that these actions send a clear message that even the biggest institutions are not above the law. With respect, the institution was never the problem. The people inside it are above the law, and they know it. Until that changes, I will keep writing letters like this one, and the next bank will keep paying the next fine. I gave up everything I had to stop this. I am asking you to use the power you have to finish it. Respectfully, Everett A. Stern HSBC Whistleblower Founder and Intelligence Director, Tactical Rabbit

Liz Cheney spent years parading around Washington like some sanctimonious fucking oracle of truth, lecturing America about democracy, integrity, and accountability while her January 6 Committee turned Cassidy Hutchinson into its star witness. Now a congressional report accuses Hutchinson of PERJURY and secret communications with Cheney concerning her testimony. How's that fucking moral high ground looking now, Liz? Hutchinson was Cheney's political jackpot. She delivered that spectacular bullshit story about Trump lunging for the steering wheel of his presidential vehicle. Except Hutchinson WASN'T EVEN THERE. The actual driver contradicted her. Tony Ornato disputed the account attributed to him. And Cheney's committee put this secondhand circus act before the cameras without first interviewing key Secret Service witnesses who actually knew what happened. Then congressional investigators uncovered something even more damning: testimony from FOUR White House employees that directly contradicted Hutchinson and claims in the committee's final report. That testimony was redacted and suppressed. What a convenient fucking arrangement. Meanwhile, Hutchinson's private messages reportedly showed her praising Trump, calling the committee phony, and admitting she knew little about wrongdoing. Somewhere between those private conversations, closed-door interviews, and her nationally televised performance, Cheney's prized witness underwent one hell of a transformation. Who helped shape that transformation? What did committee leadership know? And why were contradictory witnesses treated like radioactive fucking waste? Now the DOJ is reportedly seeking a federal indictment over Hutchinson's sworn testimony. The woman Cheney helped elevate into a national heroine could find herself answering criminal charges over the very story that made her famous. And Cheney, who spent years demanding that Trump account for every conversation, every decision, and every goddamn minute of January 6, suddenly has some questions of her own to answer. Who reviewed the contradictory evidence? Who approved the redactions? What communications took place concerning Hutchinson's testimony? When did Cheney learn that firsthand witnesses disputed the committee's blockbuster allegations? Enough of the self-righteous fucking sermons. Liz Cheney demanded that the entire country submit to her committee's version of the truth. Now she can explain exactly how that version was assembled, what evidence was kept from public view, and who the hell made those decisions. Every communication. Every contradiction. Every decision to withhold testimony. The woman who demanded answers from everyone else can finally start fucking giving some. (article below)

In 2006 the commanding general of the US Marines in Iraq banned his men from wearing the most popular sports shirts in America, because of what the burns surgeons were finding. It was 50 degrees in Anbar province. The issued cotton T-shirt was soaked through in minutes, so Marines had been buying their own. Tight, light, sweat-wicking tops in polyester, the kind every gym in the country is full of. They were cooler and they dried fast. Nearly everybody had them on under the body armour. Then the roadside bombs started. A bomb under a vehicle produces a flash of fire lasting a second or two. Cotton scorches in that time. Polyester melts. The Navy doctors at the field hospitals described the result. The shirt turned to liquid and set again on the man's chest and back. A burn that should have been survivable became a far worse one, because there was now a layer of plastic fused across it that had to be cut away. In April 2006 the order went out from Camp Fallujah. No synthetic athletic clothing outside the wire. It named the brands. The Marines then went looking for something that wicked sweat, dried fast, did not stink after a week and would not melt. What they found had been grazing in New Zealand the whole time. Fine merino wool is now standard issue next to the skin for troops who expect fire. That is twice in 25 years, in two different services, that plastic clothing has been tested on young men by an explosion. Both times the answer came off a sheep.

🇺🇸 SCOTT BESSENT JUST POSTED THIS: Dear Senator Elizabeth Warren: I have received your October 7 letter, which adds to the mounting body of evidence of your complete paucity of knowledge about financial markets. Rather than take my suggestion of studying introductory economics, you have continued your letter-writing crusade and participation in tabloid fodder about the Treasury Department. Unfortunately, it is difficult to treat your concerns as sincere. As the federal funds rate climbed from near zero to its highest level in 22 years, with inflation hitting a 40-year high, you were a cheerleader for the Biden Administration’s reckless spending. You blamed the economic consequences on the Federal Reserve, rather than your own irresponsible fiscal policies. Your view of the economy depends on who occupies the White House, but your woeful understanding of the issues is consistent. The “interventions” you describe as “unprecedented” have been underway since May 2024. The buyback program has been well received by market participants in bolstering Treasury liquidity, which reduces market volatility, increases the convenience yield of Treasury securities and ensures the best value for the taxpayer. The continued enhancements optimize Treasury market liquidity in primary and secondary markets. The U.S. Treasury market’s liquidity and performance versus global peers is evidence. While you voted for a $5 trillion tax hike on everyday Americans, the Working Families Tax Cuts continue to deliver for families and workers across the country. The average refund this filing season was over $3,400, an increase of 11 percent over the previous year. More than 30 million workers claimed No Tax on Overtime, more than 7 million claimed No Tax on Tips, and more than 37 million seniors claimed their enhanced deduction. More than 34 million families claimed the permanently enhanced Child Tax Credit, and millions of families are utilizing Trump Accounts to unlock a new savings vehicle for children. All of which you voted against. These results are made possible by the employees of the Department of the Treasury, who are working around the clock for the American people. Unsurprisingly, you have responded by criticizing their dedication and aptitude for the job in a recent interview.¹ Despite your malign characterization, the Domestic Finance team you alluded to in your interview is fully staffed relative to historical levels. It is ironic that you have voted against every presidential appointee for a position at Treasury, no matter how impressive the qualifications for the role. Given your newfound interest in Department personnel, I challenge you to reverse course and thoughtfully engage with future nominees and support their confirmation. Finally, my offer of a Foreign Exchange for Dummies tutorial still stands and if you receive a passing grade on the Yale metric, not the Harvard curve, I would be happy to also include a Fixed Income for Dummies. Sincerely, Scott Bessent Then he finished with a handwritten note ✍️ Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day in advance to you and your family. 💀

My sources are telling me Talarico is in a mental health facility. His campaign has stopped actively planning events in the vital homestretch of the campaign. If this is true, this is actually a time to pray for Talarico. We should, of course, savagely mock his smug, awful campaign advisors, by all means...and while yes, of course, this would be disqualifying for Talarico's aspirations to be a Texas Senator, we must hold empathy for anyone undergoing crisis. Campaigns are brutal, and not everybody is cut out for it. You need very thick skin. As much as I don't want Talarico anywhere near government, I also don't want wish him harm, and no political office is worth having a breakdown. His awful advisors are at fault for this. They pushed him to be something he isn't, and it didn't work. I'm praying that this isn't true, and he's OK. You want to win these fights on the battlefield of ideas, not the minefield of poor health.
This isn’t a case of the “flu” with Talarico…this is a case of “one flew over the cuckoo’s nest”.

I retweeted this negatively. Yes, I watched the clip before I did. After listening again, I’m man enough to admit I was wrong. This is not what he was saying. Admittedly, he’s saying higher gas prices are a small price to pay to keep cities like Los Angeles and San Diego safe. If I demand accountability from leaders, I better be accountable myself. I apologize for spreading false narrative.
