First day of sabbatical. Driving with my kid to New Mexico. Charlie’s senior year at St John’s College, Santa Fe campus. Today’s goal? Shamrock, Texas.
Today is my last day of work before my sabbatical begins. I’m excited about my upcoming travels, but I know I’ll miss my community. I feel sadness and some anxiety as I prepare for this morning’s Eucharists.
Pastors and “religious exemptions,” a thread.
Several years ago I was approached by a family in our church. This is a family that no longer attends, but I still love very much and am in close contact with. They told me that their eldest child was about to start in a new school.
I think that’s where we are now. For a Christian pastor to say that our faith excepts people from masks or vaccines is a violation of the Third Commandment. It’s a misuse of the Name of God. And, we might have people in our congregation who disagree.
I’m on a church committee @redeemernash. We just voted to distribute $20,000 to help women in Afghanistan, earthquake victims in Haiti, and impoverished local children eat healthier food. God is good!

My mother has warned me that, because of the Delta variant, I shouldn't travel to England or Spain next month. England and Spain now have 50% higher rates of COVID vaccinations than Tennessee. I think I'll take that bet.

I just saw Don’t Breathe 2. It opens exactly like Hanna and closes with the same climactic lines as Return of the Jedi. In the middle, it’s all unwashed bad people trying to kill each other with garden tools. And it’s never intentionally funny. #DontBreathe2
