β οΈ A far-right teenager who attempted to behead a Kurdish barber with an axe in a terrorism-motivated attack has been jailed for 19 years and six months.
Alina Burns, 19, of Lynton Road in Bristol, admitted attempting to murder Mohammed Mahmoodi, 27, outside a barber's shop in Bedminster, Bristol, on 2 August 2025.
Burns approached Mahmoodi from behind and swung the axe at his neck. He was able to wrestle the weapon away from her before she could strike him again.
Burns, who is white British, was arrested at the scene and was found to be in possession of an axe, a scalpel and two darts.
During sentencing at Bristol Crown Court earlier, Mahmoodi said a scar on his neck is a "daily reminder that I was nearly killed".
It was only after the attack that the family learned concerns had been raised about the teenager months before the incident, when she told a man on a dating app to "kill all Jews and Muslims".
Burns was told she must serve a minimum of 15 years and six months in prison.

Modern Dubai was the dream of the 2000s.
Dubai and the Gulf in general represented the last stronghold of 2000s era neoliberalism.
It preached that you could have societies that were infinitely diverse, filled with opportunities, that could be a kumbaya circle of third worlders herded into sentience by the magic of the rule of law and the markets.
In a sense they held onto the dream of the 2000s far longer than virtually anywhere else in the world.
That they are the biggest victims of the emerging world war is kind of the final obituary and a love letter to a beautiful vision of the world I grew up with. The vision of a flat world.
That so many liberals and westerners in general are happy about their state of besiegement is a massive mistake, the only alternative model of modernity is Chinaβs, and I doubt westoids are gonna like that model very much.

Never thought we would hear this level of honesty from a Western leader, and certainly not Canada, given the direction of Canada in the past 25 years. Canada's shift towards multialignment is quite clear - and this level of honesty from Carney on Western "fiction" about the old order will be warmly welcomed in much of the Global South:
"We knew that the story about the rules-based order was partially false... We knew that international law applied with varying rigour depending on the identity of the accused and the victim. This fiction was useful [because of the goods provided by American hegemony]... So we placed the sign in the window. We participated in the rituals.
