More and more reasons to leave Twitter, not just NPR but also the rest of us who care about truth, democracy and the news. If this ends up being the the last tweet from my account, here's why. nytimes.com/2023/04/12/busin…

I've ben tinkering a bit with Substack and was tricked into following @mtaibbi. Now I'm thinking that was a mistake. This isn't really any content that I need in my life right now or probably anytime.

Wow. If an elected city alderman tries to excuse his bad behavior by demonstrating that he does not understand the definition of "satire," there's a good chance he should not be representing the public in any way. jsonline.com/story/communiti…

I've had precisely two interactions with this particular alderman. He attended our neighborhood's candidate forum (for a different council race) and thanked me for organizing it. The other interaction with him was a head-scratcher, here on Twitter. It was his "serious" account:

I wish someone could tell me why so many news photos these days, like the ones in this story, look to be underexposed. Is that a new trend in photojournalism, a stab at hyperrealism by making everything look kind of gray and drab? Or is Ukraine just impossibly gray and drab?

Loved Jenny Odell's first book. My quick take on her second: Sophomore slump. #buyersremorse

I'd be REALLY curious to know if this West Allis jeweler knew he was buying ads on news sites in communities nowhere near West Allis. Is this a strange quirk of Gannett Wisconsin? But also, what does the Wausau reader think? Sure I'll drive 200 miles to sell some earrings!

"At a minimum, don’t fire your reporters in a knee-jerk fashion." I think that's a statement any journalist could get behind, whatever you might think of Ron DeSantis or this (former) Axios reporter. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/b…

I get that subscriptions, notifications, videos and advertising are important to news outlets like the TimesNews of Kingsport, Tenn., but ...

Got a media release from a NY state senate candidate who said he is "leading the charge in the stand against Satanists entering our schools and imposing their questionable ideologies upon our young, impressionable children." Ok ... wait, wha?!

Strange enough. I had to look it up. Sure enough, there IS a religious freedom fight heating up in Endicott. The Satanists want to "offer students science and community service projects, puzzles and games, nature activities, arts and crafts and snacks." binghamtonhomepage.com/broom…

Hard to say for sure, but unlikely that the After School Satan Club would have turned into a thing if it wasn't reacting to the existence of a Christian-affiliated Good News Club using the school after hours... drawing kids in with whatever After School Christian Clubs offer.

This story kind of popped up out of nowhere, but it's rooted in a lot of loving hard work by the volunteers at Grace's Closet. A simple and amazing clothing ministry.
