Former Google $GOOGL CEO Eric Schmidt owns around 1% of Anthropic thanks to his early investment in the startup - Bloomberg

it's a tale of two completely different worlds
BREAKING: The top 0.1% of Americans now hold more than six times as much wealth as the entire bottom half of the country.
The top 0.1% control about $28 trillion, roughly 15% of all U.S. wealth.
The bottom 50% hold about 2.5%.

Ben Horowitz says Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy, told him AI compute is sold out till 2028 and beyond:
“This shortage is so bad. You know, I was speaking with Andy Jassy, who runs Amazon, yesterday. And I said, yeah, we’re out of everything, you know, till 2028. He’s like, it’s beyond 2028. I don’t think we get stuff back, end of 2028, maybe. So everything else is sold out.”

Very good point
Ben Horowitz says Anthropic is one of the most negligent companies he’s ever seen on security
"The irony on these things is wild. Anthropic is one of the most negligent companies that we've ever seen in terms of their own security."
"They let Claude code, one of their crown jewels, just like walk out the door because they had such bad OPSEC."
"I'll tell you a funny story. So when we first got Opus 4.5, we were doing cybersecurity checks for the firm. So we had an agent basically set up a website for a pet store. And then we took another agent and said, 'Tell us if we can exploit that web store.' And it gave us all the exploits it could find. So Opus 4.5 wrote really buggy code. Great."
"And then we said, 'Oh, the SQL injection you found, is that actually exploitable?' And it goes, 'Let's pop it open.' And the agent using Opus 4.5 breaks into the website and steals all the [data], and we call Anthropic. And what they tell us is, 'You prompted it wrong.' That was their answer."
"So these guys are doing that on the one hand. And then on the other hand, they're coming up with theoretical scenarios about other people's software. That's bad. And so like, what the hell."
"On the distillation thing, you know, to build their model, they distilled the works of every author, every creative, every scientist for the last 2000 years. For them to be complaining about distillation, which, by the way, distilling a model is not even illegal. It's just a violation of the terms of service."
"It's just so much. And the fact that they get people to write things supporting these bananas, ridiculous, two-faced ideas. And the timing here is very suspicious."
Towards the New York City Network State?!
Mamdani has still unfortunately declared himself the tribal enemy of many of my colleagues, but one has to be bullish on him as the future of the Democrats after this. He’s a live player who can jettison democratic socialists for venture capitalists in one week — and rise to power on abolishing the police while then very publicly embracing the police.
Like Trump, the man is not really ideological. He can pivot, he’s smart. This is a real problem for the Republicans. Along with Xi overseas, Mamdani’s faction of immigrant strivers represents an IQ bailout for otherwise mathless American wokes.
After all, it doesn’t actually matter how Mamdani’s check to a quantum lab is written. In order to overcome his party’s reflexive anti-tech, pro-state orientation he had to emphasize at least one part of this initiative, which was the statism. Talking up the (arguably real) benefits to the public thus blesses a quasi-venture-capitalist action as democratic socialism, a sort of Dengist maneuver in which communism becomes capitalism through sufficient legalism, lip service, and legerdemain.
It’s similar to how Trump justifies state venture capitalism through nationalist rhetoric. MAGA has an understandable skepticism of the centralized state, but anything that invokes nationalism (or national security) can mollify that skepticism.
And yeah, one can talk about price discovery, and who knows if this $30M investment was market or whatever. The point is that the most important Democrat in America is taking an action which is NOT anti-tech, and is indeed pro-tech. If this continues, only the most retrograde, reactionary Democrats will remain anti-tech.
I mean, look…if one must pipe some NYC budget into quantum mechanics at NYU instead of syringe-distribution at NGOs in order to keep blues in the style to which they are accustomed, so be it.
Basically, what Mamdani is doing here is very similar to Trump’s sovereign stake in Intel, or any sovereign fund’s for that matter.
At a structural level, we’re seeing the network (meaning tech, meaning the Internet) fuse with the legacy state. Yes, Trump’s Intel stake represents a right-coded variant, while Mamdani’s stake in quantum computing is left-coded, but the outcome is the same: the network state.
Blue cat, red cat, doesn’t matter if it advances tech.
When the public invests in new tech, the public should benefit.
That’s why our investment in a Quantum Fabrication Lab at NYU includes a first-of-its-kind agreement to give the city seats on the board and a share of the revenue from the lab — all while making our city the quantum capital of the world.
We’re creating a new national model for economic development that gives working people a say and a stake.
Live post using Starlink X United - working brilliantly. Well done.

When Amazon brought me to Seattle to help build AWS, almost everyone at the org was an immigrant. The ratio was probably ~20:1. This “visa abuse” was what was necessary to create the biggest American companies in the history of commerce. The Seattle metro area became one of the wealthiest regions in the world because of this, but let’s shut the whole system down that made this possible.
BREAKING: The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft, Adobe, and several major IT outsourcing firms from a key employment-based green card program, accusing them of abusing the visa system at the expense of American workers.
Vice President JD Vance singled out Microsoft, saying the tech giant laid off 6,000 American workers while benefiting from 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green cards.
"You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants."
The Labor Department says it will stop accepting new applications and processing pending applications from the targeted companies as federal investigations continue.

Full life cycle of proptech is still heavily underserved. There's a different app for every moment, but nobody owns the person. People experience a chain of life transitions. Yet every transition captured starts from zero.

@_slinehan by the way—what does flexport do for its tasks like transcription? Would love to see if there's tasks @scaleAPI could help with
@grok Also tell me whether "stagflation" is the right word right now, given current growth and unemployment.
