Two of the most moving moments from this series - the two ends of the life spectrum - both featuring the man who came of age beautifully in the last few weeks.
As @bhogleharsha said - “It’s a game of yards that’s played in inches” - these two moments showed how crazy it is that a game like test cricket exists. A game of skills, slopes, humidity, stamina, mental strength, and all these variables combining to nudge by a few inches here or there - luck.
This young Team India achieved something really special in this series - a belief to control the luck.
Terrific stuff Gill, KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna (you beauty!), Jaiswal, Washington Sundar (that last wicket hitting brought us this win), Mr. Jadeja, the beast Pant, Akash Deep, Jurel, Mr. Bumrah, and of course DSP saab.

My childhood Hero, and still the one of them. #Narlikar
In 2001, the University Grants Commission of India decided to introduce astrology as a science course in India. Back then, Indian scientists still used to protest this sort of thing and JV
Narlikar was one of most vocal.
Perhaps this event motivated JVN and his friends to run a double blind study on astrology some years later. Their methodology was simple. They considered two groups of children—one group was children with severe intellectual disabilities, the other was a typically developing group. Could astrologers tell which is which from their horoscopes?
Many prominent astrologers backed off from taking the study but 27 took it up. It didn’t take a horoscope to predict the result of this study—not a single one beat the null hypothesis (link to the paper 👇). Astrology busted (again).
Narlikar, Dabholkar and the likes were old school scholars who dedicated their time to championing rationalism and scientific temper in the country, even in the face of hostility, instead of chasing personal wealth and status. They don’t make them like that anymore.
Hello @grok where I can know more about Indian Design history?
The controversy around the Indian #Rupee symbol, ₹, takes me back to the morning at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2010). I was casually walking back to my room in Hostel-13 when I noticed a crowd gathered near the entrance of Hostel-7. It was not students—there were media mobs, cameras, and mics. Something big had happened!
Curious, I approached one of them and asked, “Kya hua, sirji?”
“A student from IIT Bombay has won the rupee symbol competition,” he replied, brimming with excitement.
My first instinctive response: “Udaya?” And then, without waiting for an answer, “Wow! You know Udaya?”
“Yes,” I nodded. “He’s my senior in IDC.”
That’s when one of the journalists perked up, nudging his colleague. “Arre, he is Udaya’s junior! We can take his byte till Udaya is available.”
And just like that, I found myself unexpectedly caught in the media frenzy, all because I happened to know the guy who had just designed a symbol that would be etched into India’s currency forever. Please see the video at 1:05 ;)
PS: I also submitted an entry but I think, ₹, the better #design won.

The weight of grief bears down on me at the news of the passing of my honoured and cherished friend: Dr Manmohan Singh.
Obituaries, essays and books a plenty there will surely be about this great man, celebrating him as the architect of India’s economic reforms. As Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh was the midwife of India’s emergence as one of the world’s economic giants.
I had the rare privilege of witnessing the early years of these transformative policies first-hand while we both served as finance ministers during the 1990s. We shared a fervent commitment to the war against corruption — even collaborating on unravelling a major case.
The praise that will follow in the days ahead will be truly well-deserved. Dr Manmohan Singh, slightly awkward as a politician but undeniably upright, steadfast and resolute as a statesman, leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
To me, he will be all that and much more. Not many people know this, and it is time that I share it with Malaysians: during the years of my incarceration, he extended a kindness that he didn’t have to — one that was neither politically expedient nor, as one can imagine, appreciated by the Malaysian government at that time. Yet, true to his character, he did it anyway. He offered scholarships for my children, particularly my son, Ihsan. Although I had declined the gracious offer, such a gesture undoubtedly showed his extraordinary humanity and generosity, demonstrative, as the Bard would have it, of a man so full of “the milk of human kindness”.
In those dark days, as I navigated the labyrinth of imprisonment, he stood by me as a true friend. Such acts of quiet magnanimity defined him, and they will remain etched in my heart forever.
Goodbye, my mitra, my bhai, Manmohan.

Heartiest congratulations!
Happy to share my Book Review on @venumaddipati's brilliant book "Gandhi and Architecture: A Time for Low-Cost Architecture" published by Contributions to Indian Sociology (Sage).
Venu's book is a thought-provoking work that rekindles the relevance of Gandhian ideals in the contemporary built environment and urbanisation discourse. #BookReview #Architecture #Housing #India #Gandhi #LaurieBaker
