If you are relentless and genuinely outworking the competition.
Believe in yourself.
If you catch yourself thinking about what could go wrong, allow yourself to dream of what could go right.
If your mind keeps replaying the last mistake, force your attention outward. Identify one thing you can see, one sound you can hear, and the next task in front of you. Attention improves when it has somewhere specific to go.
When your mind races ahead, shrink the assignment. Do not solve the entire game. Identify the next clear action your body already knows how to perform.
Focus is not holding one thought forever. It is noticing when attention has drifted and returning without wasting energy criticizing yourself.
Preparation becomes rigid when athletes rehearse only the version they hope to experience. Readiness also means practicing how to think, communicate, and adjust when the expected rhythm disappears.
Staff alignment is tested when information changes. Coordinated teams update the athlete together. Misaligned teams deliver separate explanations and leave the athlete to decide which version is true.
A leader’s consistency is not measured by making the same decision every time. It is measured by applying the same principles when the people, pressure, and consequences change.
Strong leaders separate standards from personal preference. A standard protects performance. A preference protects familiarity. Confusing the two creates unnecessary resistance and weakens accountability.
Coaches sometimes protect confidence by correcting too quickly. When every struggle is immediately explained, athletes lose the chance to interpret, decide, and recover. Useful feedback should improve the athlete’s next read, not replace it.
Culture weakens when leaders correct visible mistakes but ignore protected behavior. What a team repeatedly permits from high-status people teaches more than any standard posted on the wall.

At just 22 years old, Hank Blalock took down the most dominant closer in baseball.
On July 15, 2003, he came off the bench and crushed a two-out, two-run homer off Eric Gagné to put the American League ahead 7-6.
Gagné went 55-for-55 in save chances that season and won the Cy Young.
Hank got him anyway, with World Series home-field advantage on the line.
That swing is exactly why Rangers fans loved Hammerin’ Hank.
Talent tells people what you could be.
Your effort tells them what you are.
Most coaches will tell you, they bet on your reliability.
Just ask your coach.

The Rangers win, 6-3, thanks to Cam Cauley's debut triple, Justin Foscue punishment of lefties and Jake Latz's unmatched multi-inning closing ability. They have now won 5 straight on road for first time since 2018.
