Numerous players participated in last week’s WPIAL Golf Championships.
But only one had a unique, familial tie to the two host clubs. A tie that includes a historic U.S. Open victory. @thewpga

Ian Patterson has heard the stories of his most famous relative throughout his life. But it wasn’t until recently that he was able to gain a full appreciation.

Ten years ago today, The King, Arnold Palmer, passed away at the age of 87.
A decade later, his legacy and impact on golf, sports and Western Pennsylvania remains as strong as ever.

Ten years ago today, we lost our Western Pennsylvania golf icon, Arnold Palmer.
I spoke with longtime Oakmont pro Bob Ford about his friend's legacy & some of his favorite Palmer memories. @thewpga

The caliber of youth golfers in Western Pennsylvania is trending upwards. State high school championships, once far more rare for locals, are becoming the norm.
Investments in our local programs are starting to follow, as well. @thewpga

At the U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club outside of Philly, as match play begins today.
Yesterday, Josh Ryan earned medalist honors. He won the PA Amateur in July at Oakmont. The Eastern PA native is the first 'local' to earn medalist honors since Greensburg native Mark Goetz at Oakmont in 2021.

Hempfield alum and girls golf coach Katie Miller Gee won her second straight WPGA Mid-Amateur title Monday.
Here she is with her daughter, Clara, after the victory at Green Oaks C.C., where Katie is a longtime member. She finished at 7-over 153 after rounds of 74 and 79.
Miller Gee, a former WPGA Amateur champ, won by seven shots.
“I knew it was going to be a marathon,” Miller Gee told the WPGA. “But I generally welcome those. I haven’t actually played 36 holes in a day since last year in this event. I knew I was going to need to be patient. The setup was pretty challenging.”
Miller Gee is the president of the Women’s Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania.

More than the story of golf’s first major.
THE OPEN follows 1,500 years of Scotland's history—from the building of the Cathedral of Saint Andrew and the Reformation to Mary Queen of Scots, the Jacobite Risings, and Prestwick in 1860, where golf's first major was born.
Honored to share the story behind THE OPEN with @theWPGA—the forgotten origins of The Open Championship and the inspiration behind the novel.

October '24. My wife & I are at St Andrews. We ask a couple to take our photo. Got to chatting and, of course, they're also from Pittsburgh. They were there researching for @jloughranauthor's next novel.
That novel's out. And I wrote about it. @thewpga

The final round of the 123rd West Penn Open is today.
Colton Lusk leads at 9-under, but there are a ton of great players in the mix. Should be a fun (and warm) day at Willowbrook Country Club.
