My parents should be on their cruise RIGHT NOW. The Norwegian Bliss. They’re not. They booked a @CruiseNorwegian Alaskan cruise a year ago with four other couples. Flights included. Ship LEFT today at 4pm. Without my parents. 5:30 this morning I was driving them to the airport. Southwest unexpectedly canceled the flight Norwegian booked with my parent’s package. We called the emergency line immediately. I SPECIFICALLY asked if we could just buy tickets ourselves on a different airline so they would make the ship on time — and get refunded after. They said NO. If we booked our own flights, there would be no refund. And last minute plane tickets to Seattle are OVER $1000 A PIECE. They also REFUSED to put my parents on the same flight number my mom’s friend was already on. Same package. Same cruise. They said that flight wasn’t PRE-APPROVED. And yet we knew someone who was on a United “pre-approved flight.” Their only offer: fly to Juneau on day 3 of a 7-day cruise. No guarantee of a refund. No guarantee of compensation for the days they would miss. We asked for a supervisor. None available. They said the only people that could help us came in at 9am. We waited. 9am customer service told us that because my parents had travel insurance they should have just booked their own flights and gotten reimbursed later. That is EXACTLY what I asked at 5:30am. Norwegian customer service said no. So my parents missed the boat. Their friends are on that ship. My parents are home. Passports packed. New clothes for Alaska. Cameras. Dinner reservations. Excursions. All sitting here unused. This was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for people who work hard and don’t take vacations like this often. Was it Norwegian’s fault that Southwest canceled? No. Was it their fault they told us at 5am we couldn’t rebook ourselves — then at 9am said we should have? Yes. My parents still haven’t reached a supervisor. They’re still fighting for the refund they deserve. Norwegian didn’t just lose a flight. They lost the memories my parents were supposed to make this week. Norwegian, fix this for my mother and father. Not a “cruise credit.” A real resolution. Real SUPPORT. Norwegian Cruiselines I highly suggest you take this as a sign that your company needs to invest in serious customer service training or your business will go down like the Titanic.
