Only European Debbie Downers in the comments btw
Some data we recently assembled on entrepreneurship/compute in Europe: eudata.vercel.app.
We hope that one of the useful roles that Stripe can play is in collecting and publishing empirical data pertaining to entrepreneurship and industry in Europe. There's growing appetite to get Europe on a better footing, and cross-sectional comparisons can often shine light on where opportunities lie. If you're interested in this kind of thing, we publish more at stripeeconomics.substack.com.

Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.
We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use.

plot twist: they all run the same AI on the same server

Met a German founder this week and asked him if all the stories one reads about the challenges of startups in Germany are exaggerated. "No, they're understated." Proceeded to describe spending a full day having a 90-page investment contract read to him (mandatory under German law; § 13 BeurkG) by a notary that then charged €30,000. That was for his first company. His second company, needless to say, was not incorporated in Germany.
Stripe CEO Patrick Collison and Mario Draghi have created the Rhine Group, an organisation for European revival.
They state that decline is not inevitable, and instead Europe should focus towards a common destiny where we have the capability to compete, build and grow.

🚨BREAKING: the stealth model Ox Alpha is Z.ai (Zhipu)
everyone else is guessing it from tokenizer vibes and emoji rates. i made the server say its own name out loud.
sent it one malformed request and it threw a java stack trace naming its own internal class:
com.wd.paas.api.domain.v4.ch….ChatCompletionRequest
paas/v4/chat = Zhipu's documented route /api/paas/v4/chat/completions
thats not a fingerprint guess. thats the server confessing. proven at the serving layer, confidence 0.98.

Everyone guessed who made Ox Alpha today. I fingerprinted it instead. One page, 9 infrastructure probes: tokenizers, error codes, hidden templates. I ran • the mystery model against 12 suspects. One family matches every tokenizer test: GLM. Plumbing does not lie. Tool in reply, bring your own keys. Link in reply

I was incredibly concerned with the debt.
Now I get it.
It’s never going down.
The budget will never get balanced.
Both parties don’t care and if they say they do they are lying.
Fighting about taxes is silly.
We can’t tax our way out of it.
There isn’t enough tax revenue to be extracted.
We are going to print our way out of it.
5% real inflation forever.
What’s 40 trillion in debt if we inflate the gdp to 100 trillion?
It’s the only choice.
Both sides want to keep spending.
My thesis the next 30 years:
The dollar will be worth less tomorrow than today.
The government will promise anything and spend everything.
Plan accordingly.
As a foreigner in Germany is ask only one thing; do not judge me by the color of my skin, sexual orientation or religion, but by the essence of my character.
Ps. Happens everyday btw. Germany is tough but fair.

Key lessons I learned from @paulg yesterday:
1. Grow 10 percent a week. If you optimize for growth, growth designs the product. Users tell you what to build next.
2. The growth rate is a decision filter. If code is not the limiting factor, stop writing software and go sell.
3. Fundraising is not winning. Money from customers is. A valuation is a prediction of future customer revenue.
4. Believe the no, not the why. Rejection reasons are breakup lines.
5. If everything else fails, keep a small group of users happy. Hang on to that like a rope in a hurricane.
Is @IterIntellectus referring to Elon or PG?
