Buddy Guy turns 90 today.
His mother's stroke pulled him from school as a teenager. When he left Louisiana in '57, he promised her he'd make it big and come back in a polka-dot Cadillac. She died before she ever saw his success.
Years later, he had Fender build him a polka-dot guitar to carry her memory everywhere he plays.
Still touring at 90. Damn right, he's still got the blues.

On this day in 1936: @TheRealBuddyGuy was born. In 2007, Eric, Buddy, @JimmieVaughan, Robert Cray, Johnny Winter, and Hubert Sumlin all performed "Sweet Home Chicago" together, during Crossroads Guitar Festival in Bridgeview, IL.
Guy and Vaughan will both be returning to Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2026, tickets are available for purchase at the link below.

Oscars post-mortem: The final scene of "Sinners" with Buddy Guy is when a good film becomes a great one, a moving coda that illuminates and broadens the impact of what came before. I found the entire film worth watching again, as the Guy cameo put it all in context. (1/2)

Something so beautiful about Buddy Guy being there. His mentors like Howlin’ Wolf and his heroes like Lightnin’ Hopkins are all gone. Jimi Hendrix is dead. But he’s still here. He basically was in the same place as Sammy in Sinners and he’s still here.
