When I was at the Humphrey, someone who did harm reduction work explained it to us like this:
You can't get sober if you're dead.
The purpose of harm reduction is to keep human beings alive and as safe as possible so if they do decide some day to get sober, they're alive to try
Since this tweet inspired an editorial in the Strib today it feels important to clarify:
I’m not saying the city should encourage intravenous drug use, I’m saying we shouldn’t be naive that it exists and take steps to mitigate it and make the city safer for everyone.
