Besides the many issues with standardized testing. Most students have no idea what they missed on the tests and teachers don't either. And by time they get results students have moved on to next grade. Making it useless to evaluate teachers & districts too.

I’ve assigned a Grecian urn or two over the years. Good reminder to focus on the standards, not the show. cultofpedagogy.com/grecian-u…

I dug through my Twitter feed today to find the term for this β€” a Grecian urn. I must admit, I might be ready to assign one to get me through the next couple weeks. It will address the standards, but there will be scissors and there will be glue and tape. πŸ˜‰

Playing 20 Questions today with my classes on Google Meet. Today they learned who Popeye is , where Mt. Everest is located, and how many lightbulbs are in the Empire State Building. @a5virtual #virtuallearning #Canwedoanotherone πŸ˜ƒ

Oh, and Cher! We learned who Cher is. Very important pop culture information.

I think they need to teach class as we are now before they continue to add things to our plate. Great if they taught Kinder for 3 years 10 years ago. But if they haven’t taught in hybrid, they have no clue. I bet we would be given more time to prepare/plan/breathe.

Good leadership is good leadership, but every admin should have spent time in the classroom as a teacher. If they haven't, they should be required to teach a class as admin. You have to experience what teachers experience to fully serve & support them.

I know we’re supposed to make our decisions based on the needs of the students... but we can never discount the needs of the adults in the school. They’re the ones taking care of the kids. And they want what’s best for students as well.

As a principal, I’m supposed to be an β€œinstructional leader.” But I told our teachers this week, that I don’t know how to do that in the middle of a pandemic. Right now is not the best time to talk about programs, plans, data points, and β€œbest practices.” It is time to support.

If you think that USPS can be replaced by a free market company that would do the same thing all that means to me is that you’ve never lived in or visited rural America.

I find it comical when some people out there tell teachers that they can just quit if they don’t like what is being asked of them. That is why they could never make it as a teacher. They don’t understand the commitment that teachers have for their kids.
