There might not be a better person on Earth to explain how AI could change football analytics than @JohnCUrschel, former NFL player and MIT math professor.
He explains football currently has player-tracking data, but it's a mess.
He believes AI will help make sense of it.
"You’ve got 22 guys on a field, and it’s just complete chaos from a data, statistical point of view."
“Even a couple years ago, it was not easy to take player-tracking data and actually recognize what play just happened.”
“Was the defense in Cover 2? Were they in Cover 3? What run play did the offense do? What was the passing scheme?”
“And so I think there’s a huge potential for AI to help.”

After quarterbacking the acquisition of 100+ apartment buildings in LA, here are some of the questions we force ourselves to answer, in writing, before we irrevocably commit to buying another one:
1. Was the building ever actually permitted?
2. Is there a real foundation, or is the structure sitting on slowly sinking fill?
3. Could there be leaking underground tanks from an old gas station on this lot (or the one next door)?
4. Are there really as many units as the listing claims, and are they all legal?
5. Is the seller already in litigation with a rent-controlled tenant who intends to stay permanently?
6. Have local gang members started treating the property like a clubhouse?
7. Will a neighbor’s future development kill the views that make the units desirable?
8. Are any of the surrounding properties half-way houses for ex-convicts?
9. Is the structure legally connected to the city sewer system?
10. Is that roof deck permitted, or did someone bootleg it in and leave a new owner potentially liable if someone falls off it?

Could have just asked me
We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.
At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

Tomorrow at 9am PST - we’re releasing a new flannel - the Copper Houndstooth. First, we’ve only got about 26 yards of this fabric. We should be able to get about 13-15 shirts. Sign up for our email list if you want to be first in line 👀

This is my big wash, but just the tail end of the runoff. I’ll hike down sometime while it’s raining to show how fast and wide and deep it can get.
