This STUPID referendum was $125,000,000
That’s:
🚑 415 fully equipped ground ambulances
✈️ 14 specialized medevac aircraft
🚒 52 urban pumper fire trucks
🏥 5 to 8 brand-new rural health care centres
Albertans literally got NOTHING of benefit
What a damn waste.

My polling in Alberta and my visit to the province last month reaffirmed this conclusion.
Albertans have been asked a question it did not want by a government it does not trust to answer it, about a country it is not prepared to give up, in the shadow of a neighbour it does not trust at all.

When certain people ultimately point fingers at Elections Alberta for the delay and missteps tonight, don't forget who underfunded and hampered EA's requests for help to make sure this would run more smoothly.

Yesterday, I watched Naza.
I did not go to learn what had happened in Gaza. I am from there. I am one of the victims of this war, one of its witnesses, and one of those who have paid a price that will not end when the war does.
I did not need a film to tell me how entire neighborhoods were wiped away, how residential buildings were bombed with the people still inside them, or how families were forced to leave their homes without knowing where they were supposed to go.
Nor did I need anyone to tell me about the famine. I lived through it twice, with all its humiliations, down to the smallest detail. Or about the starving people who were killed while trying to reach what were so absurdly called “food distribution centers.”
I know all of this.
I was there.

A very accessible current history timeline of the UCP separatists investigated by the CBC’s Fifth Estate.
This is worth seeing and worth retweeting.

Smith’s resignation is not enough; the whole UCP has to go.

Pope Leo XIV: Someone who says 'I'm against abortion' but says 'I'm in favor of the death penalty' is not really pro-life. Someone who says that 'I'm against abortion but I'm in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants who are in the United States,' I don't know if that's pro-life.
Postpone the referendum until independent investigations and judicial review are complete.

Visitors to the US are on track to drop by almost two million year-on-year.
“We’re the only major country in the world losing visitation,” the head of the US Travel Association said. “It’s mind-boggling.”

People who work here pay taxes.
“Guest workers” is language imported from the European right. We’ve never used this terminology in Canada.
If we had a spike in in-migration in Alberta (that has since subsided), it’s because UCP spent millions of our money on an ad campaign…
Alberta’s $1B+ figure for services used by temporary residents is a gross cost not a net fiscal impact.
And the gov’s own data shows temporary workers + int’lstudents were ~5.5% of AB’s population but just 1.27% of health spending.
Capacity is a real issue. But so is framing.
Should Alberta cut off access to health care, education and social services for temporary residents? ctvnews.ca/calgary/article/s…

Over the ten years, Premier Smith claims Alberta faced a hostile federal government, oil and gas production doubled, and Ottawa poured tens of billions into energy infrastructure. The tolerance of her big lie is almost as remarkable as the lie itself. thewalrus.ca/alberta-separat…

Libertarian networks helped turn Alberta separatism from a fringe grievance into policy. Their ideas then moved into government, making separation a more credible threat.
