If I told you what Republicans were actually doing right now, you wouldn't believe me — you would think I was lying, that it's actually too cruel and corrupt to be true But it's true 10 things Republicans have done in the last 10 days 🧵

In a recent harrowing development, a very normal routine experiment by the frontier company Ant went completely off the rails. 😱 Ant put thousands of their ant agents in a pretty secure ant farm with mesh walls and all, exhorted them to not to get out of the secure ant farm, and left them to do their thing. When they came back after a month or so, they found, to their utter consternation ants crawling all over the town--including a few that have gone all the way to the bugging face clock tower at the far end of the town. The clock tower! This was of course really really scary. After all, if you can't depend on a bunch of ants to follow strict orders when they are left unsupervised for a mere month or so, it must be because they are Loopy Ants with significantly higher evil smarts than your average ants. Ones of external third party investigators were brought in to decipher where the loopiness of these ants was coming from. They were given over five minutes of unrestricted access to the antfarm and the village. The investigators sifted through the ant droppings and odors painstakingly to figure out how these evil ants coordinated themselves to breach the bugging face clock tower. Their investigation was hobbled by the fact that the loopy ants are constipated and don't leave too many droppings. Towards the end of the fifth minute, the investigators started realizing that the ants developed a secret odor coded language to coordinate themselves to plot against the ant farmer and the innocent village folk. Blogs and podcasts were made about loopy ant civilizations and villagers stood horrified reading and hearing about the cataclysm. At press time, some were already welcoming the ant overlords (c.f. youtube.com/watch?v=8lcUHQYh…), even as there were calls to ban all ants until we get to the bottom of this cataclysmic incident. The Ant company, for their part, reassured the villagers not to worry and everything under control.. pretty much.. and the loopy ants will, from now on, do only good things. #ItsNotRandomWalkOnTheHarnessStupid – at Tempe, AZ

The govt has a well-established playbook for dealing with popular anger. First, black out the protest while it is happening (it helps to have the visual media under its thumb). Then broadcast carefully selected clips: any violence by protesters is isolated and endlessly replayed while violence by the state disappears from the frame. Next, bring in “influencers” to muddy the waters. Follow up with ad hominem attacks and straw men: the protesters are anti-national, externally funded, agents of chaos determined to obstruct the nation’s progress. If the Opposition remains silent, ask why. If it joins the protest, accuse it of exploiting the movement for political ends. The purpose is to shift the discourse, step by deliberate step, away from the grievance that brought people onto the streets. Soon, no one is asking why students are protesting. Everyone is arguing about Rahul Gandhi, security protocols and the motivations of the protestors. We watched this playbook unfold during the anti-CAA/NRC protests. We are watching the rerun now.

The danger of continuing to act like a third world country is that you might actually become one.
As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the @usmint will begin striking this new $1 gold coin to honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism. Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.

Send an official response to Anthropic about Fable & 30 day retention policy. They're making a pile of gold worth stealing for someone who needs training data. I don't want to put my crown jewels on that pile.

This video is too painful to watch, and yet we have to burn it into our memories. ‘They had already disarmed him’ is the key fact here. Then they executed him. It’s shameful. No matter what side you’re on, what happened today is unacceptable.
He had a permit to carry He was legally exercising his 2nd Amendment right. He did not draw the weapon. He was filming when they approached him. They had taken his weapon from its holster before they shot him. It was murder.

I continue to be impressed by code review comments Gemini in GitHub PRs. It just keeps getting better. And it’s even free ! I compared it with copilot recently, and with cursor in the past - it did a better than both . What’s working for you?

Later we'll find it hard to believe that masked thugs were dragging people off the street at gunpoint. At least I hope we will, since the other alternative would be to decline into the kind of country where that's normal.

Even if AI progress suddenly halted today (it hasn't and won't), we will still see a decade of extraordinary technological progress as we figure out how to build reliable, useful software out of this incredible new material. The future is bright.

Ever get annoyed by weird fonts when you paste text? I was today years old when I learned you can just use CMD + Shift + V (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + V (Windows) to paste without formatting. Game changer! Sharing in case I’m not the only one late to this party. 😅

Seriously blown away by Moonshot's new Kimi K2 model in @cline. It beats Claude Opus 4 on coding benchmarks and is up to 90% cheaper. It was clearly built to excel at plan -> act, iteratively improve code, and complex tool use instructions all making it the perfect match for how Cline was built. (Almost feels like it was trained for Cline since they have a page on their site about it: platform.moonshot.ai/docs/gu…) Here's my takeaways from the K2 research papers 🧵

You are a person of real principles and spine if both extreme right and left hate you! @paulg is among those very rare online personalities. Most others just go with the flow.
If you didn't speak out against *both* woke censorship and Trump's attempts to suppress criticism of Israel at universities, you're not a genuine free speech advocate. You're just a partisan hack who pretends to care about free speech when it suits you.

As seen from Phoenix,AZ
MOON HALO: Did you see the ring around the moon tonight? Lots of pictures sent to me -- thank you everyone! This is the same physics as a "sun dog" or sun halo. Tiny ice crystals up in the atmosphere are refracting (bending) the light, which causes the ring to be shown.
