Look. I don’t want to overstate it. But when you look at contemporary SF — the cults of rationality and dialogue, powerful men having sex with their male mentees, an obsession with “first principles” thinking — it’s hard not to notice some parallels with ancient Athens.

Maybe AI will kill us all one day. Or maybe it will deprive us of livelihoods and meaning.. But in the meantime, just as the arrival of writing caused an explosion of philosophical interest among the ancient Greeks, the arrival of talking computers is doing the same to us now.

Joining the holy crusade against AI on the side of the Catholics That’s a sentence that would have deeply confused me five years ago
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

you can either look at a mortgage as a bank letting you long real estate against a perpetual devaluing dollar for a carry cost slightly above the risk free rate of return, or you can choose to be ignorant of how money works, if you spiritually have the mind of a medieval peasant
“Buying a house right now is FCKING MENTAL. what do you mean I can borrow $400K at 8%, pay almost $3K every month for 10 YEARS, hand the bank roughly $352K, and STILL owe around $351K. And that’s before we even talk about taxes, insurance, maintenance, or repairs. Wild. WILD.”

Love me a $2 trillion valuation with $4.6 billion in revenue and a $42 billion net loss 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Can’t wait to see the initiating coverage reports from GS and MS explaining their methodologies
BREAKING: Anthropic’s S-1 was leaked to Reuters, revealing highly-anticipated financial metrics and insights ahead of its planned IPO at a $2 trillion valuation. Our main takeaways below: Key 2025 metrics: - Revenue grew 1,088% YoY to $4.6B - Operating loss widened to $8B from $3B - Net loss widened to $42 BILLION - Compute and infrastructure spend was $7.3B (up 190% YoY) - Balance sheet cash of $20B The company plans to spend $518 billion in cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations in the coming year. Nearly 1/4 of its revenue came from two customers last year and are not locked into long-term contracts. The filing highlights risks around increasingly autonomous Al systems, including unexpected behavior, security concerns, and potential misuse. Anthropic is competing in an increasingly expensive Al race with OpenAl, Google, Meta and xAI. Amazon and Google are major strategic partners and early investors in Anthropic, supplying cloud infrastructure needed to train and deploy Claude models. The IPO could come after the US midterm elections in November and would give public market investors one of their first pure-play ways to invest in a frontier Al lab.

yeah so basically trump got cocky after succeeding with venezuela and had a hot hand and decided to double down and strike iran in february thinking they could take over the country in a couple of weeks despite everyone telling him it was a bad idea and would drag on nothing really happened and then Iran learned that they can actually close the strait of hormuz and were unsure if it would even work but now its become obvious they can do it and feel empowered. the iranians have a longer history as a culture and are slow walking trump as much as possible as they know that higher oil prices are going to ruin his odds in the midterms and weaken him not only that but now higher energy prices are putting upward pressure on inflation and bond yields which has made the job of his new fed chair warsh who came in under a premise of potential rate cute but because of the iran war were entering a rate hiking cycle the only person in the room who was trying to juggle all of this was scott bessent but after trying to juggle everything for so long he decided he was going to try and fight the bond vigilantes to lower bond yields and declared himself as the house. but he showed up to the bond fight with hardly any ammunition and now the bond market is calling his bluff and now the bond auctions are going terrible and he looks like a fool now so now bond yields are surging export bans on diesel are being put in place as an act of desparation midterms are a total write off and the trump admin is about to spend the next two years probably fighting impeachment hearings while things continue to detoriorate and the funny thing about all of this is he won the presidency off the idea of no more foreign wars but its his own foreign war with iran that started this whole mess and now the free market is testing them all

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

September 1st is when most Boston rental units turnover. Boston's availability of apartments is up 250% today versus this time last year. That's.... extreme. Available today = vacant tomorrow. This is creating a K-shaped rental market in Boston, read on for more:

Dead Internet Theory is real, folks. Finally folks are talking about it out-loud but it's crazy how long this kind of stuff has been going on for...
Interesting conversation with a growth lead at a $100M+ ARR AI company. They run about a 100 seeded Reddit accounts driving 15M views/month, for them to be cited in top 3 of their category on Claude, GPT & Gemini. LLM citations are the new mass discovery channel.
