Highlighting again: The prediction for the upcoming Bandwagon-5 launch on Monday, which flies a rare and unique trajectory, is modeled as a best-guess estimate. The prediction may be inaccurate for distant viewers.
That said, v1.3 is now live:
- Completely redesigned X post maps for a significantly cleaner, more polished look, with dynamic per-launch cropping, clearer titles and legends, and city labels selected based on population, geographic coverage, and viewing conditions
- Updated heatmap scoring with a focus on distant viewing to better account for how high the rocket appears above the horizon and how long favorable viewing conditions last
- Expanded forecast X posts with viewing locations, peak sunlit elevations, approximate viewing directions, and color indicators corresponding to the map
- Updated interactive website maps with matching city labels and trajectory styling, dynamic framing, and titles and legends
Space jellyfish alert!
The Bandwagon-5 rocket launch from Florida on October 19, 2026 at 6:30 AM EDT could produce a space jellyfish. This occurs when a rocket and its expanding exhaust plumes are illuminated by the sun and observers are in local darkness.
NOTE: This rare and unique trajectory is modeled as a best-guess estimate. This prediction may be inaccurate for distant viewers.
The rocket will enter sunlight 02m55s after launch.
Viewing locations, peak elevation while rocket is lit by the sun, and approximate viewing direction:

🚨 $RKLB: 21 U.S. MILITARY SATELLITES REACH ORBIT WITH ROCKET LAB-OWNED MYNARIC LASER TECHNOLOGY ON BOARD.
A BIG WIN FOR ITS DEFENSE SPACE BUSINESS!
Northrop Grumman $NOC just deployed 21 satellites for the Space Development Agency's Tranche 1 Transport Layer.
And guess whose technology is flying on those satellites?
Rocket Lab's Mynaric.
Rocket Lab acquired Mynaric, the German company that manufactures laser communication terminals for satellites.
These terminals allow satellites to communicate directly with each other using optical links, moving military data across orbit without routing every transmission through ground stations.
That's especially valuable for missile tracking, secure communications and military operations requiring low-latency connectivity.
Now connect a few dots.
Northrop Grumman builds the satellites. Mynaric supplies critical optical communications hardware. SpaceX can launch the satellites.
Rocket Lab gets to participate even when it isn't building or launching the spacecraft.
$RKLB also has approximately $1.3B in SDA satellite manufacturing contracts covering 36 spacecraft.
Investors are still looking at Rocket Lab too much through Electron and Neutron.
The company is expanding into spacecraft manufacturing, satellite components, space robotics and now laser communications.
As the Pentagon builds larger, interconnected satellite constellations, optical terminals become an important part of the hardware supply chain.
The next thing I want to see is Mynaric scaling production, delivering its contracted terminals and securing additional orders.

California Governor Gavin Newsom visited Rocket Lab's HQ yesterday.
I think it's smart of Rocket Lab to engage with both sides of the political aisle, whether it's Hegseth or Newsom.
Both parties should recognise the tremendous value Rocket Lab brings to America.
Rocket Lab is great for America. Period.
