What struck me about this photo is that Trump and Xi invited to their dinner table: an immigrant from South Africa, two Taiwanese immigrants that came to the US as children, and a gay kid from Alabama, all of whom moved to Silicon Valley to make a dent in the universe.

Congressman @kevinmullin visited @LoftOrbital for a tour and a fireside chat with COO Alex Greenberg @thatbergness where the conversation turned to how AI is reshaping what's possible in orbit. From on-orbit inference to faster decision-making for operators, this is the kind of work we're proud to show a member of Congress up close.
Thanks to the Congressman and his team for spending the time with us.

BREAKING: Abu Dhabi is backing a $1 billion plan to build 50 AI-powered satellites that can detect missile launches, wildfires, and activity around critical infrastructure.
Built with Loft Orbital, the constellation will combine optical, thermal, hyperspectral, and RF sensors with onboard AI and computing from Nvidia and Mistral AI.
The goal is near-real-time intelligence to detect a missile launch, spot a wildfire, track aircraft leaving an airport or flag a ship approaching a coastline without waiting for massive amounts of raw data to be processed on Earth.
Orbitworks will assemble the satellites in Abu Dhabi. The first is already built and expected to launch aboard SpaceX next month, with 9 more planned for 2027 as the network scales toward 50 satellites and global coverage.
The $1 billion bet is ultimately on a new model for Earth observation with satellites that don't just photograph the planet, but actually understand what they're looking at before the data ever reaches the ground.

My official statement on the budget, as read in chambers this evening, before I was muted:
"I’ve been a member of this city council going on five years now. And I’ve voted yes on the budget every year so far. All of them had problems. All of them contained things I didn’t like or agree with. But I’m not here to demand perfection, I’m here to work with what we have — within reason.
Unfortunately, this year is very different. And I must vote no.
Even in the context of our dysfunctional city government, this year’s budget represents a complete departure from reality, spending more money than we’ve ever spent — precisely when we can least afford it.
We have never seen a larger single-year increase in spending in the history of this city. Requiring not only new taxes from Albany, but pension deferrals and an eight billion dollar bailout from the Governor. And even still, the revenue projections are optimistic at best.
This isn’t a ‘balanced budget’ — it’s budget by bailout. A ticking time bomb.
And it’s the beginning of a fiscal death spiral that our current leadership will not be able to pull us out of, because they lack both the experience and the seriousness to do so.
What will we do next year? And the year after?
The only responsible way for our city to spend more is to grow the economy. New businesses, new private economic development, major investment. That’s how you grow an economy, and get more money into the city budget.
But we’re doing the opposite. Deliberately chasing away everything our city needs to sustain our spending with childish political attacks on very people we need most.
Our tax base is isn’t growing. It’s leaving.
The middle class, the financial sector, and businesses of all sizes are choosing to go elsewhere. And they’re being replaced with low-income foreigners and transplants who require significant subsidies just to survive here.
We’re trading investment banks and small businesses for delivery app drivers on welfare, and nonprofit workers whose paychecks ultimately come from government spending. That isn’t growth.
And when ordinary New Yorkers complain, they’re told to shut up and leave if they don’t like it. And that’s exactly what many are doing.
This is obviously unsustainable. But nobody in this chamber really seems to care.
And what are we getting for our money? We already spend more in real dollars AND per capita on everything from schools to housing to healthcare than anyone else in the country.
We can’t even build a public bathroom for less than three million dollars.
Why would anyone believe that shoveling even MORE money into this broken system will improve anything?
It won’t. I guarantee that we’ll all be sitting here again a year from now, with the exact same problems, listening to the exact same lectures about how the city needs even MORE money, AGAIN.
At what point do we, as a City Council, start to demand results before we allow more spending? When do we demand accountability?
The answer seems to be never. Because this spending isn’t really meant to fix anything. It’s meant to keep the machine going, keep the money flowing into the special interests and nonprofits and the political allies of the Mayor, with no real consideration for anything else.
I realize a lot of people don’t want to hear this, but we are a municipal government, not a sociology experiment or a political slush fund or the United Nations.
We are here keep the lights on, keep the water running, pave the roads, and put criminals in jail. That’s it. And we would be very well advised to get back to basics. Because we’re failing on nearly every count, other than our peerless ability to hand out free money.
Shame on this Council for pretending this budget is anything other than a disaster. I know that my single vote ultimately doesn’t matter here, but nonetheless I won’t put my name on it. I respectfully vote no."
I met Steve pitching our Series A in 2019. The second I got back into my car after the first meeting, I called my co-founder and told him I had met the person we needed to work with. We’re still pinching ourselves 7 years later!
Congrats to @vassallo it’s been an honor working with you at @LoftOrbital
Proud to be on this year’s Forbes Midas List 100.
But the list isn't really measuring what people think it's measuring.
- It measures @andrewdfeldman , building wafer-scale silicon when the industry said it couldn't be done.
- It measures @toly, betting on a new way to build blockchains.
- It measures Pierre-Damien Vaujour and Alex Greenberg, going all-in on satellite buses before they had clarity on the future.
- It measures Lynn Jurich and Edward Fenster, rebuilding Sunrun overnight when the 2008 GFC broke the model.
These are the people who move the world from what is to what ought to be.
And I feel lucky to play a supporting role.
I love what I do and I love who I get to do it with too.
Congrats to my better half @AdenaHefets for helping create this at @OpenAI!

Loft is all in on Space-based AI.
Today, satellites are passive sensor platforms. Human operated. Collectors of raw data that gets downlinked, processed on the ground and distributed to users.
Our vision is to turn satellites into flying inference engines. Autonomous nodes, connected to the ground by real-time data relays.
Satellites were not designed to work this way. Try asking any satellite operator to run a third party provided AI application onboard their satellite....not going to happen.
For the past several years, we've been quietly building the software layer onboard that solves this problem, allowing any first or third party AI application to deploy and run on a Loft satellite. This is the key unlock for how we transform our satellites into AI-enabled decision-making nodes.
More to come....

The people dunking on this photo have it exactly backwards.
That’s the Outer Sunset, somewhere between the 30s and 40s Avenues. Those rows of identical stucco boxes were built by Henry Doelger, who from 1934 to 1941 was the single largest homebuilder in the United States. His crew finished two houses per day.
Before Doelger showed up, this was literally sand dunes. Maps labeled the entire western half of San Francisco “Great Sand Waste.” Nobody lived there. Nobody wanted to.
What changed: the Twin Peaks streetcar tunnel opened, the FHA started backing mortgages for middle-income buyers, and Doelger figured out assembly-line construction on 25-by-120-foot lots. He sold homes for $5,000. Adjusted for inflation, that’s roughly $125,000 to $175,000. A working-class family could buy one on $32.50 monthly payments.
Those “cookie cutter” homes used redwood framing, which is why they’re still standing 85 years later while many luxury developments from the same era have been torn down twice. Doelger built roughly 25,000 of them across the Sunset and into Daly City, where they inspired Malvina Reynolds to write “Little Boxes.”
The reason 90% of SF looks like this is because 90% of SF’s housing was built to solve an actual problem: where do tens of thousands of postwar families live? The Painted Ladies on Alamo Square and the Victorians in Pacific Heights survived the 1906 earthquake. They represent maybe 10% of the city’s housing stock. The Sunset represents the city that working people actually built and lived in.
Here’s the math that makes this photo funny for a different reason. Those Doelger homes that sold for $5,000 in 1939? Median sale price in the Sunset District is now $1.63 million. That’s a 32,500% return. The Sunset is currently the most competitive neighborhood in San Francisco, with homes selling in under two weeks, often above asking.
The “ugly” part of San Francisco turned out to be the best real estate investment in the city’s history. The fog-covered rows of stucco that tourists never photograph generated more household wealth than the Victorians everyone puts on postcards.

My better half @AdenaHefets dropping some start up wisdom from leading @divvyhomes through an incredible journey.
When I founded Divvy, I focused on building, our mission, & surviving. Like most early founders, I rarely thought about exit economics. Here's what I call 'acquisition math' - headline price vs equity value, pref stacks & what it means for founders.

Today, we’re celebrating a major milestone with our partners @EarthDailyA. The first EarthDaily Constellation satellite has successfully completed integration and testing at our facility in Golden, CO – marking the first of 10 Longbow satellites that Loft will integrate, test, and operate for the constellation.
Built on Loft’s space infrastructure, the EarthDaily Constellation is set to redefine Earth observation in the AI era, delivering broad-area change detection and daily global revisit. Upon deployment, the EarthDaily constellation will provide valuable insights to critical industries – unlocking operational efficiencies, identifying and mitigating emerging and unrealized risks, and helping understand the world at a new scale and depth.
“The successful integration and testing of this first satellite is a testament to Loft’s space infrastructure model and the strong partnership we’ve established with EarthDaily Analytics. We can’t wait to get to the pad later this year and start unlocking the full potential of the EarthDaily Constellation,” said Alex Greenberg, COO of Loft Orbital.
