Like the rest of the internet, Sentry runs on Open Source. Like the rest of the @ThePledge companies, we also believe in paying it back.
In 2025, we gave out $750k to the OSS projects we rely on; here’s a sampling of some of them, and why they are so crucial 🧵

The open source ecosystem is the cornerstone of Node.js development.
This is why today, @platformatic has signed @thepledge.

Today, Sentry and member companies launch @ThePledge, for the good of open source sustainability. Every company benefits from open source, but there exists an imbalance between what we get from OSS and what we give back.#PayTheMaintainers

Great initiative. Much needed and vital for the next step of internet growth 💪🏽
So few people understand how much of the web is powered by open source software.
It’s well past time for the people who build and maintain those projects to be compensated fairly.

I can't overstate how excited I am about this. ❤️
"Fixing open source sustainability" would a monumental step in the right direction for the tech industry towards a positive sum.
It would help countless motivated (and/or burned out) builders to work on their OSS projects.

I received a few DMs regarding "Sourcegraph went dark," on HN (Hacker News) so I'll respond here and link to it. =)
1. Sourcegraph code search hasn't been an OSI-approved open source project since I started (February 2022). I knew this going in and knew there would be better opportunities to help sustain the greatest software supply chain ever to exist (IMO).
1a. On GitHub, there are forks of Sourcegraph code search with the Apache 2 license and without telemetry; I look forward to seeing what the community builds!
2. Since I started, @sqs, @beyang, and others on the engineering team have encouraged me to support many of our top-level dependencies via @thanks_dev, @opencollect, @github Sponsors, and direct payments to maintainers that you won't see publicly.
3. @adocomplete tasked me with creating the @SourcegraphCody Pro for open source maintainers. Since launching in June, we have onboarded 31 maintainers.
Hopefully that will help answer any questions or concerns. I love Sourcegraph as a company and am lucky to work with such a talented and dedicated team.
I look forward to expanding our community with @Kynlos @PriNova75 and our open source sustainability initiatives one day at a time. ❤️

On a more personal note, it feels really good to join a company that also happens to be one of the very few *organizations* that sponsor me on GitHub. Sentry currently sponsors *514* people! 🙇 (2/2)

Seems like something @OpenSourceOrg/@thanks_dev/@fossfunders could offer? But doesn't look like they do.
I can imagine orgs like @getsentry or @FrontendMasters who've been doing good work funding their deps recently would love to be able to show that commitment recognizably.

Great to see the competition pickup & companies give back to the community we often take for granted. I wonder who's going to join the movement next? We'd love to help them 🙏 fossfunders.com/ @chadwhitacre @getsentry @FrontendMasters @sourcegraph @Microsoft

A company uses one of my libraries, and they often open issues about bugs and other help. I promptly offered them a support contract, which would greatly help them and myself. They refuse.
After a while they open a bug about a production issue. What would you do?
